Ramesgate Theme Park thingy

The Great British Seaside Resort: sun, sand, piers, funfairs and donkey rides. But that is only part of the attraction. If you love being beside the seaside, talk about it here!

Pleasurama

Postby dave771 » 11 Apr 2010, 00:20

The arcade was called Pleasurama and the park at the rear of the building was known as Ramsgate's Pleasure Park, found an old interesting link to the park on youtube.

The youtube clip you posted
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZeJIUCfPQ0Q
answers all your questions. Pleasurama/Ramsgates Pleasure Park was owned by Jimmy Godden who also owned the Rotunda at Folkestone and Margate's Dreamland. I am unsure of the date but Pleasurama was destroyed by a fire, 0:36. Now the site looks like the clip shows at 1:41, the site is currently awaiting development which when completed should look something like 0:30. 4:10 - 4:30 says it all really !

When is this TV programme showing?..I had a phone call last year from one of the producer type people asking me if I had any ideas for places they could visit and regenerate..I wasn't much help at the time..I don't know why but I thought someone was having a laugh with me but she turned out to be 100% genuine..
Please pass through the turnstiles if you are riding again.

It is on Tuesday nights on Virgin 1 at about 9pm. The first installment was last week, about ramsgate boating pool. A sort of Country House Rescue by the seaside.

Tonights was Cornwall a couple running a waxworks that had not chnaged for 20+ years

The changes made big improvements if you have Virgin it should be on catch up.

I have loads of pictures & photos of Pleasurama (& Merrie England - it's name prior to Pleasurama), which I collect, mainly in postcard form. Too many to load on here really... Also the Tunnel Railway which ran to the seafront, right at the rear of Pleasurama until 1965.. Anyone else got any..??
