Dreamland to Open 2005

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

So does anybody know if they will be investing money into the overall look of the park or just attractions? Lets face it, even with some top class rides Dreamland is not really a pritty site. A good park needs more than just rides.

This quote from the news page suggests more than just plonlking some rides down :
"He is going to tidy up the park and hopes to return it to the top family attraction that it always was. "

Hopefully that means more than just a lick of paint here and there. Although this wont happen for a few years (thats if it happens at all) it would be so cool for Dreamland to look more like a themepark than a fun fair. Also is a Top Buzz the traveling version of Samurai at Thorpe Park? If it is this year could be quite promising with that and a Drop Tower. Thinking of Drop Towers didnt Dreamland have something like that a few years ago but it never opened? Anybody know why it never opened?

Sling Shot Tower

I cant see to much for fear of Mr G taking me to court, but the tower ride did have all its tests with varying weights and seemed to be ok to open, we did open the ride for two days but on the second day the ride had to close due to technical problems, end of season the ride was removed and never returned.

Fantastice news, can't say how happy i am that Mr. Ayres is leasing Dreamland for 2 years!!!! This is a real chance for Dreamland.
Good Luck!!!
Please make sure that when its up and running, its advertised everywhere, many people have come to Dreamland over the last few years and have been hugely disappointed, and word gets around. So please advertise, car stickers, radio programmes, local and national news, tourist information, internet and papers.
Does Mr. Ayres view this website? If so all the best, we all believe in Dreamland and know that it can work, just needs the right care and attention. :D

So the Top Buzz is basically a Top Scan, ie Samurai? I hope so, hope it is on better settnigs than at Thrope at the moment, a wild ride

WOnder how tall the Drop Tower will be, Detonator at TP is 100ft i think and thats classed as a small one!

Yes Dave to run the Scenic! Wouldn't be the same without him. Just got back from a very blustery Margate. Nice to see you Dave and thanks for letting me know the news whilst we were there. :D

Nothing in the local press

I take it then, if its going to have acharge for going in, they are going to fence off the car park? Will they use the whole free sapce going from up the stairs from the car park to where the Big Wheel used to be, or just use bnehind the Scenic Railway?

This is all fantastic news. This guy sounds like he really has the ideas and motivation to make this work. BRILLIANT!!!!!! Congratulations to all involved in this campaign for constant support and pressure. This seems to me to be an exciting step in the right direction. Let's all support and make this work. Must be going to Dreamland.

As good as this is for Dreamland...it is a disappointment for me...Pleasurewood Hills is my local park, and the Mega Drop was my favourite ride. My daughter is tall enough to ride it for the first time this year and now the ride is going!

Of course, the answer is to ride it at Dreamland...but Pleasurewood Hills is just 3 miles from home...not 3 hours.
