Just for fun, we are asking which is Britain's greatest seaside amusement park, past or present. Choose from the 10 options above, which run clockwise around the country from Newcastle. I know we have missed out some fantastic places (Botton's Pleasure Beach at Skegness, Coney Beach at Porthcawl and modern parks such as Fantasy Island, Pleasure Island and Pleasurewood Hills), but the ones we have listed are probably the most well-known and/or longest established. Great Yarmouth Pleasure Beach back in the 70s. That lovely Bavarian area with the food stall "street" and the rather brilliant Alpine Chairlift. The Bowl Slide. The original Giant/Boot/Witch scene at Fairyland (with the "To The Moon" final downward zig-zag to the final room). The Vampire Jets and Satellite. The Sky Wheels and Flying Saucers. Finally, the Water Chute and, of course, the Roller Coaster painted with those incredible mountain scenes; bridges and viaducts painted to look like the trains were travelling over them - and no brick-built monstrosity in the middle of the ride.
