Nick Laister stands down

Nick Laister stands down

It has been reported by the BBC that Nick has decided to end his involvement with Dreamland to concentrate on other commitments.

Thank you so much for all you have done over the years. I for one feel far less comfortable knowing that you won't be there in any further decision making, in fact I am positively worried.

Wishing you all the best for your future ventures.

Thanks Cheryl.

I will be staying on as chair until we find a replacement, and will then be continuing as a director of the Trust, so won't be gone completely. Dreamland is still a big part of my life, but I think it is time for somebody new to bring in fresh ideas and energy and lead the Trust through its next phase.

That's good to hear you'll still be involved in some aspect. That makes me feel a whole lot better. Someone needs to keep a close eye on TDC ha ha ha .....

Can you clarify exactly what the role of the Dreamland Trust is? It appears to have no real function now.

The Dreamland Trust will continue to do what it has always done. Secure funding for future projects at Dreamland, whether that will be for restoration of rides, the development and reopening of the Cinema, or further amusement park development. A number of new ride projects have started, that the Trust is funding; more about that at a future date. We are also responsible for implementing the Heritage Lottery Activity Plan for a 20 year period, including education and community projects, interpretation on the park, responsibility for the Dreamland Archive and much more besides. Yes, we have reached a very big milestone with the reopening of Dreamland and a large proportion of the park now operating, but there is still a huge amount of work to do, and the Dreamland Trust will continue to take the lead in all these areas, working with the Council and Sands Heritage.

Yes, thanks for that. One thing that seems to pop up here continually is that most people don't seem to have any idea how much is really involved with projects, long term goals, funding and all the stuff that goes into trying to do all this.

The other issue is that people who want to volunteer need a contact. Emails directly to Dreamland seem to go unanswered.

Well done Nick and thanks for what you've done on behalf of roller coaster lovers everywhere. There were times when it looked impossible, and now it's a reality, an enormous achievement by you and your team.
