Dreamland, Amusment park or not?

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

It should be obvious to everyone on this board that Bob knows best.

He knows more than Nick and the whole of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, The Disney Corporation and The Tussards group put together. None of his outbursts are ever backed up with anything, other than he knows best!

Well isn't it a shock that Jimmy Godden employees would be so clever and obviously highly paid.

He does not even have the balls to answer direct questions and won't deny any of the accusations as to his motives. This is proof in itself that he isn't a supporter of the campaign.

A) BOB = Jimmy Goodden or
B) BOB= Associate of Jimmy Godden Or
C) BOB = Some one Who is woking for the group who want to develope the site as retial.

You know what I'm really not caring who Bob is since I bet he's enjoying all the attention and somewhat I'm not giving him the benifit of the doubt. He can say what he want, do what he wants or even dance around in a circle with a flowery hat on but I don't really care. Unless he makes any comments to any answers I don't see any point in reading the posts.

Was half funny at first watching him squrim his way out of answering questions but common does get a tiny bit boring after the first 2/3 posts.

The reality is whether you like it or not or if you wisg yo ignore it that visitor numbers to attractions in the UK have been falllling for very many years and Yes that includes Blackpool which has seen significant drops in visitor numbers

Memorandum submitted by Blackpool Challenge Partnership

INTRODUCTION

1. Blackpool Challenge Partnership in conjunction with Blackpool Borough Council generally welcomes the sensible and comprehensive approach, taken by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport White Paper "A Safe Bet for Success", to gaming in the 21st Century. The Government's bold decision to relax the gaming laws has given Blackpool a timely and most appropriate opportunity to regenerate itself and reshape the resort into the exciting entertainment experience that the modern tourist demands. Whilst we do not agree with every single proposal within the White Paper, we support the de-regulatory thrust of the Paper.

2. In particular we see an opportunity to use the opportunities offered by a change in gaming legislation. The decline in the prosperity of Blackpool as tourists have increasingly chosen to visit sunnier destinations abroad is well documented. During the 1990s alone, we lost over 5 million tourist visits to the town and the number of guesthouses and hotels fell by a third. The result has been that Blackpool now experiences unemployment rates of between 9-14 per cent, well above the national average, and is the 32nd most deprived area in the country.

Bob,

Please learn to use the forum correctly. Your postings seem to be just a quote of something someone else has posted, but closer inspection reveals that you have edited the quote so it seems the original poster said something different.

Rather than quote a large post, please just make your point in a fresh posting.

We are prepared to discuss items like this with you if you quote real sources as you have tried to, but even if other venues are not having quite the same success as they have been, if Phillip Miller want's to put in a park like he has in Southend, but bigger, then until his venture works or fails who can say if the park can work or not?

The real issue here is not if the park is viable, it's that your boss Jimmy didn't get his own way with the council over some flats, so the toys are no longer in the pram.

Also, please introduce yourself properly in the 'Getting to Know you' thread and you should notice that even if you admit you work for Jimmy, you will gain a better level of respect on here.

The main reasons you receive hostility is the fact that you don't normally back up any of your statements, and you don't identify yourself.

I think it is you that lack facts. There is ample evidence from around the UK that Amusement parks are not making money. Would you like me to list the ones that have closed and give their final years trading figures.

I tend to get the impression that people on this forum do not want to see Dreamland reopened.

Contrary to what some people are claiming no interest has been expressed in running Dreamland as an Amusement park by any operator.
The longer Dreamland remains closed the less chance their is of it ever re-opening.

The ideal may be that the site remains a 100% amusement park. The reality is that is in no way a commercial proposition.

People here need to think long and hard. Do they want an Amusement Park but on a slightly small scale or would they prefer to see Dreamland closed.

Those are the hash facts. You may choose not to like them or even accept them but they are the facts like it or not.

If you are of such a strong opinion that Dreamland is viable put your money on the table and make an offer. Somehow I do not see that happening.

Hi All

It would seem that Bob is spouting his bulls*** again hes saying that no one has expressed an intrest in running Dreamland as an Amusement park, However Nick has constanlty said that several people have expressesd an intrest Phillp Miller being one of them I beleve that names were given in Nicks submission to the Inspector and i am pritty sure Nick would not have placed false information into his report. I tend to beleve Nick on this one, The intrested partys may hav not yet approched Godden and the sites owners yet because like the rest of us thay were awating the inspectors report and are now awaiting the TDC's reply to that report before makeing any firm offers for the land.

As I said in my previous post there are no offers for Dreamland. That is a FACT.

I am sure you know most of us do not have that sort of money but as we have said before there are people who are willing to put the money on the table in order to keep Dreamland as a 100% amusment park. I would also like to add i am sure you (jimmy) have the money to put on he table to build houses etc.

Bob,

If amusement/theme parks are such a financially unviable proposition, why are Dubai International Capital (DIC) investing millions upon millions of pounds in further expanding the three Tussauds parks?

And why has Brighton's entire seafront been completely regenerated, with new restaurants and bars opening alongside the traditional pier?

And why has Adventure Island succeeded in becoming a well loved, successful and thriving business that has enhanced Southend's reputation, standing and visitor numbers?

The reason Dreamland has not succeeded in recent years is because those who have owned/run it have not had the will, inclination or desire for it to succeed. It could appear to an objective outsider that it was deliberately run down, though I'm not suggesting that was the case.

No tourist will visit Margate to go shopping. Every high street in the country is practically identical nowadays and few people live far from a shopping centre. It might succeed in getting a few locals in, but that's about as far as it would go. Remember, Margate already has a shopping centre and a decent high street with lots of variety - that should be the focus for retail develpment, not Dreamland.

You are either misquoting Nick or he is putting out incorrect information. I can catagorically state that no offer for the Business has been made and that no one has made an formal enquires as to potentially buying the Business.

I suspect all that these companies have stated is a maybe if the eind is blowing the right direction and it cheap enough may be interested. It little more then asking some one in the street if they want to buy Dreamland.

Did any of these so called interested parties put detailed proposals forward ? The answer to that is No

Bob/jimmy you are talking out of your Ar** if you look at the plans tussards have anounced for there parks over the next 10 years they are building state of the art rides, new hotels, new beaches, new safari trails and of course some of the biggest rides around. You wil also find treasure island in southend wants to build a new roller coaster which will go from one side of the park over the the pier to the other. They have also anounced they will be opened every weekend during the winter because of popular demamd. The guy who owns this park wants Dreamland and i am sure he knows best.

ps:Bob/Jimmy we all know you have run amusment parks but lets face it if someone else says they can make ago of it at a profit then your past record proves its best to listen them rather than you.

Thanks
