Is Bob's latest edict in code?? As a new member of this campaign I have read his comments but see no logic, coherence or direction to his arguments such as they are. Maybe I will work it all out after a while. His spelling isn't up to much either. His entire argument seems to be based on the current situation created by mismanagement and deliberate under selling rather than the real potential that this site undoubtedly possesses. I imagine Bob thinks if you say something enough people will have to believe it even if it is 'cobblers'!

Thanks to all concerned in this truly fantastic campaign and Bob. He makes the job quite a lot easier!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D :D

The site in its current form is just not viable. Redevelopment of the site is the only way foward. The site will become part retail & part an Amusument park and part leisure facilities. It will be come an asset to Margate rather then the current rundown site which is a financial drain.

No matter how hard you campaign the redevelopment company and Thanet council will not permit a loss making facility. If you belive it will be a goldmine run as an Amusement park form a company find backers and buy it. I have not seen you all rushing to do so in fact quite the opposite a deadly silence. You are though quite happy to see others run a business at a loss. Put your money where you mouth is. I suspect though you would all change you tune if it were your money you were throwing away.

The days of the need for a large Amusement Park in Margate are gone forever. Just count the number of people getting off train say on a summer Saturday. Count the number of visitors wandering around the town. It will not be very many. Amusument Parks need large capitol investment and it needs big numbers through the gates each day just to cover the costs. In reality you can only make money at weekends and School holidays in the summer. You canot compare Dreamland with the Shell Grotto which needs a handfull of visitors each day & has no capital costs and very few staff.

reading your post you make it sound like a company is all ready to move on to the site and begin the re development.

Silly off the wall brain storm how about putting the coaster under cover at the heart of a new indor "theme park" with marry go rounds bowling ice amd roller skaiting cinima bars cafes etc:
Zoid on!

Why form a company, find backers and buy the site when there's already established park operators who want to buy it? Philip Miller will do a much better job with Dreamland than us, because he has the experience. And regardless of what you have claimed in the past, his offers to buy Dreamland have been turned down flat - do I really have to explain the land value situation to you AGAIN?

In your first post on this subject, you thought the Grotto could survive on 50 visitors a day, then it was 30, and now we only need a handfull. Next you'll suggest that I would make more money if I closed the doors. Or perhaps I should brick up the entrance and apply for Outline Planning Permission to build a little shopping village here?

The only reason small numbers of visitors are comeing to Margate is because the curent owners have run Dreamland to the ground causing the town to have no visitors and therefor the small retailers are closing and large retailers are pulling out. In my eyes the current owners eg Go###n and freinds could not run kindergarten let alone a amusment park !!!

Have a look at the figures across the UK they all show the same thing , not many visitors to seaside resorts and year on year that number is falling as is the average length of stay. People prefer to go abroad even for short stays. You could spend a weekend in Spain in a nice resort and Hotel for well under half the price of a trip to rundown Margate. Its no contest really. Well over 60% of visitors to Margate are over 50. Not prime candidates to spend a day at Dreamland.

I see you are another of the hot air experts that can run Dreamland and make a fortune. So if you are so clever why are you not making a bid for it ?

The reality is that you cannot make money from Dreamland other then scalling back the operation to match the current potential demand.

Ok Bob you keep putting out this challenge, despite replies, lets get down to the core of the problem.

Is this site, an amusement park site, available for sale at an appropriate price calculated by valuation professionals in the field at a market price for an amusement park?

This is the whole issue and a short, straight, answer would be appreciated.

Nick wrote:If people want to comment on the applications but don't like the online option, you can write to the Council. The Council address is:

Thanet District Council

You will need to quote the reference numbers: L/TH/05/1593, L/TH/05/1594, L/TH/05/1595, L/TH/05/1596 and L/TH/05/1597. One letter will suffice, as long as it is stated that it applies to all five applications.

If doing the online approach, it is probably best to respond to each application separately.

as a business student and someone very familiar with how businesses are run and managed it is no suprise that dreamland couldnt be run by godden if this 'bob' character was at the helm! he seems laughably incapable of responding to direct questions- not a good thing in business, maybe he should try going into politics!

i can understand part of his argument but thats just simple modern day society- why not keep margate on the map instead of letting it fall into just another has been of a town like whitley bay, etc.

the problem is not the lack in visitor numbers- if they build it they will come as it were.....

bob's responses of 'no-one comes to margate anymore' are so blindly stupid- no-one comes to margate because there is no dreamland anymore-thats why people came down from london and the suburbs, not to look at some shops and a cinema and bowling alley!
You can't beat that top buzz feeling!

That is a sweeping statement and it is also wrong. There are several examples of seaside resorts where visitor numbers have increased considerably over recent years. Southport is one example. Southend is another. Both have had significant investment in their amusement parks. In my experience, the two go hand-in-hand.

Regarding the point you keep making about members "putting their money where their mouth is", I suggest you read Sarah's post above.

I think we would also all appreciate an answer to Stephen's very pertinent question above. What is your response?

No its not a sweeping statement. The two places you mention are totally and completly different to Margate. Southend is a a much larger town with a population of nearly 200,000 and has within a catchment area of a 30 minute journey a population of about 3,000,000. It also has a much younger age profile them Margate. It is mainly a Business & Commutor Town. It is the fifth largest urben area in the Uk. It has a much larger average disposable income then Margate.Southport is similar a much larger town of about 100,000. Close to several much larger towns including Blackpool.
