Dreamland Leisure

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Of Bob's many postings his latest offering is really rather silly.

He totally overlooks the close relationship this Campaign has with the Arts movement in Thanet so any extensive consultation with them would be known to us.

Sporting is a very vague term and had there been consultation this would have been with umberella bodies and he would have been able to name them. Similarly he talks about disabled and disadvantaged not the expression that would have been used had there been any real dialogue.

I would challenge him to tell us which organisations they have spoken to as all of the 'proper' ones are open bodies and it would not be a secret. He might also explain what he means by disadvantaged as I suspect he has picked up a 'buzz' word without actually knowing what it really describes.

Perhaps, whilst he is at it, he can tell us how their plans will give inclusivity.

Bob has completely idnored the fact that only 5% of people have voted to allow other leisure facilities so I guess Bob is happy to undermine 95% of the population

Extensive consultation has taken place with Sporting, Disabled and Disadvantaged groups and Arts Organisations all have expressed a wish for Leisure & Arts facilities to be provided as a part of the redevelopment of Dreamland.

As always Bobs sweepes in with the most improable unsupported comments. Unless his is prepared to provide evidence we will have to assume this is another instance in which he has lied (normally I would give people the benefit of the doubt, but Bob has a history of lying to us and has been caught out several times.)

It has been established that there is a considerable under provision of these facilities in Margate.

What facilities? Pot wholes and climbing walls? Grow Up. You don't know what you're talking about. Just as you thought there were no plannign laws concerning large ugly fences just in front of listed structures. At first I thought you were a propagandist, but I don't think you're worthy of that title.

There will also be an exhibition on the site which will show the History of Dreamland from its start to the Opening of the Dreamland Leisure Park. We look forward to seeing you there when we open.

Don't fob us off with that because we all know the developers are only prepared to build enterprises that are highly profitable. I seem to recall you telling us half the site would be a farmers market. Your plans are here today and gone tommorow with no explanation.

Rephrase " There will also be an exhibition on the site which will show the History of Dreamland from its start to its sad demise"

David.

A clear demand has been established for a mixed Leisure and amusement park facility. Dreamland Leisure is fully committed to meeting TDC vision for this exciting venture. A real jewel in the crown for Margate. A uniquie facility unrivelled in the rest of the UK and not another Me To Amusement Park.

Bob i don't know who you are but you are talking a load of rubbish.

What does 'uniquie' mean? Is it good or bad?

I'm not sure whether 'unrivelled' is positive or not either.

Well done Bob. Thanks for getting us all fired up!

I am pleased that yet more "Save Drealnand Campaigners" are backing this scheme. We already have had very positive feedback from the various sporting and disabled organisations we have contacted. We look forweared to seeing you at the Dreamland Lesisure Park when it opens

I'm pretty damn sure that if you contacted every organisation based in and around the area, they would all say they had an "underprovision" of facilities in Margate if they thought they stood any kind of chance of getting anything out of it. What a daft thing to say.

It's very simple - Margate is a Seaside Coastal Resort and people will not travel to the area for anything other than cheery seaside fun. No matter how much the council want to alter the overall setting of the town, probably to compete with the likes of Whitstable and Ramsgate, it's not going to happen.

Margate is also blessed with excellent transport links so these facilities are completely unnecessary, even for the physically disadvantaged. We thankfully don't live in an era where people are confined to the area around them.

I beg your pardon. Are you trying to say that your plans are wierd or are you giving us a commentary on the clothes you are wearing? I can't find "forweared" in the dictionary so maybe you could add it to Wikipedia. Initially I thought you were trying to say forward but clearly that can't be it because it wouldn't make sense when we're all saying your plans are daft and will never come to fruitation.

My final comment is that several people have now asked Bob to provide evidence and he has continued to ignore us. Clearly if he had evidence he would have given it so I think we should be getting the pinches of salt ready. I hope Bob realises he's not helping the developers plight to replace a "World famous amusement park" with flats, I mean a farmers market (oh no that was replaced by new plans. They can't tell us why this plan was pulled in case rivals copy them and build their own farmers markets), pot holes and climbing walls (oh no, that plan went when they decided they wanted something disability friendly), a small supermarket to serve the local area (oh no, that was pulled when they realised how unpopular it was), an empty lump of concrete (oh no, that idea went when they are refused permission to demolish the right buildings).

I think more and more people are comming to realize that the "Save Dreamland Campaigners" are a bunch of moaning out of towners none of which have or are willing to make any financial commitment to Margate. They like to generate lots of hot air but when asked to put there money where there mouth is go very quiet but are quite happy to say other people should invest in what they want , which is not what the majority of people in Margate want in any case. Fortunatly TDC is more sensible.

Vintage and frankly moronic stuff this time.

Out of towners traditionally went to Margate to 'invest' in Dreamland and bars; restaurants; hotels and other attractions in the town. If you were to get your way these 'moaning out of towners' would have no incentive to go to Margate at all. This is the point you see. No matter how much you choose to ignore it it won't go away. You tried to make an amusement park look unviable through specific policies and ineptitude. Phillip Miller wants to invest in the town Bob. he'll show you how to run an amusement park.Let him get on with it Bob. Us 'moaning out of towners' might have some reason to come again. Your half baked proposals don't add up to much except profits for you and your superiors somewhere along the line.

Your frustration was evident in your last hilarious effort but mud slinging, deliberate misinterpretation, and general talking bollocks doesn't convince anyone in Thanet or anywhere else that you know what you are on about.

I stand by my statement 100%. There is NO COMMITMENT at all to DREAMLAND from the "SAVE DREAMLAND CAMPAIGNERS" All you do is moan about what you want. It does not occur to you that most people do not want what you want nor do you get off your backsides and show any real commitment. Filling in petitions as to what you want is the total limit of your committment. There is constant moaning about no financial comittment from TDC to Dreamland. Where is your commitment. It amounts to hot air only. There may be a fairground operating at Dreamland this year. Will the Save Dreamland Campaigners be their operating rides. No they will be moaning that its a half hearted affair.

No wonder no one takes you seriously. Lets see how committed you are and see the Save Dreamland Cmampain operating rides this year.

There about zero chance of that happening though. It might mean they have to dig into their pockets and take a business risk. They do not want to take that risk themselves but are only to keen to demand others do it for them. What a bunch of losers.

You johnny-come-lately, self-righteous, ignorant cretin. Yes you. I have have invested every penny I own, and a good few I don't, in Margate. Many many other Campaign members live here, work here, run their own businesses here and they've been here for a good deal longer than you - and they'll still be here, investing in Margate, believing in the town's future, when you have scuttled back off to your little hole in the Home Counties.

We have been committed to saving Dreamland from half-wits like you for over three years now. Remind me - when did you move to Margate? Not that long ago, as I recall. And how exactly should I measure your commitment to the town? As a paid lackey who does what he's told and goes where he's sent?

There are a good few of us who have ploughed our own money into the Campaign. There are many of us who have given freely of our time. We have the kind of passion, expertise and commitment that haunts redevelopers in their worst nightmares.

We have never been a negative Campaign that simply moans about anything that displeases us. We have been proactive about finding solutions and working with, rather than against, those who can bring those solutions to the table.

We are taken very seriously indeed. Which accounts for your increasingly desperate posts and Toby Hunter's futile statements.

And, for the record, one of our members made an application to Waterbridge concerning this year's travelling fair. He was more than happy to dig into his pockets and take a business risk. As yet, he hasn't had the courtesy of a reply.

There's an 11.04pm train service from Margate to Newbury. Not the swiftest I'm afraid at 7 and a quarter hours with four changes. But if you run you might make it. I would be happy to donate the £35.40 fare.
