Final Chance to Object to Council's Local Plan Modifications

Hi all,

I hope everyone has found the time to formally object, either on-line, by fax or in writing to Thanet District Council regarding their proposed modifications to the Local Plan. (See top left home page of this website; click on red lettering to access the details you need to object).

As normal I seem to have left my objection to the eleventh hour (not intentionally) but other matters seem to have got in the way unfortunately. However, I feel that is critical to log as many objections as we can with this situation. After all, if we've come this far with the Campaign, we surely all must make possibly our final public objective voices heard loud and clear.

I am going to go into my new workplace tomorrow armed with some printed information on the above objection and hopefully I can encourage some work colleagues to partake in the above also. (If nothing else happens we may well get some new Campaign members).

I'll probably have to complete the on-line version now, but may well also fax a copy to the council just in case.

I actually got a paper response from the council thanking me for my interest and opinion... and I'm in another country.

Hi All

If anybody is having problems with the councils site you will find the survey does not seem to work proerly on the firefox browser. All you have to do is use internet explorer and all will work fine.

What happens now the date for putting objections in to the council has passed? Do the council have to publish any statistics regarding objections and is there any obligation on the council to take notice if a certain number of objections are received?

Hi all,

Glad to see I'm not the only one at the "eleventh hour" with this one; I got my on-line entry in around 2am this morning. Well done Hairy Vince.(Where has this month gone??) I do hope we get some confirmation - I thought it may have generated an automatic e-mail reply but I've had nothing yet. Just me being paranoid I guess.

As our American friend, Jim Douglas Jr, said though, even he got a written reply. One thing I can't fault this council over in my past experience. Just a great pity they can't seem to go along with professional independent verdicts.

I await now with bated breath!

PPS Oh, and I also cajoled a new female work colleague into making a submission this afternoon. I also took in the Dreamland Remembered book which generated quite a bit of interest. Even though some are only around 20 years old they have fond memories of Dreamland.

I filled out the online objection form last week. As a roller coaster enthusiast, I felt it my duty to lend my support to Dreamland and it's historic Scenic Railway.

I last went to Dreamland in 2004 and remember leaving the park thinking how much potential the place 'really' has as a 'viable' amusement park. It's a shame the council can't seem to realise this. Scaling down the site would be a recipe for disaster in my opinion as there will be no room for growth. This is probably what the council want though. Any excuse to make out the Dreamland site isn't viable as an amusement park.
Do Thanet District Council want to put people off their town or something? Without Dreamland, there's no reason for me to make the trek (from Bucks) to Margate. I've spoken to a fair few non-enthusiasts who have taken a holiday to Margate in the past, and one of their main reasons for visiting the town was the amusement park along with the beach of course:lol:

The council should really take some inspiration from Great Yarmouth, Blackpool and Southend...

I firmly believe the Tories are pressing the 'self destruct' button. The sooner the better, before they ruin Margate and Dreamland.

Hi from (not so) sunny California.

I am over here on business, but still reading the forum.

I think it's time to get political and make noise about which politicians are interested in the future viability of Margate, and which ones are not. What do others think?

I have to completely agree with your political comments. The current council incumbants' often consistent inept comments regarding Dreamland really do beggar belief. It does indeed seem to take an extremely long time for the real facts to filter through to their minds. However, I think they are severely underestimating the general public opinion on this issue.

If I was a local voter in Margate I would certainly not vote back the current ruling party, and ensure the best pro-Dreamland alternative is secured. Too much is at stake to do otherwise surely (despite an individual's normal party allegiance).

PS Vince; that song line is certainly right sometimes when they say "it never rains in Southern California; it pours" - I witnessed some downpours on my recent visit too, but it was at least brighter than back home, and milder temps.
