Opening Day

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Oh no, not Bob again.

Let's not let the newcomers upset us.
They always seem to miss the LARGER PICTURE:
Yes, we know Dreamland is far from perfect, but if we don't save it, it will never have the chance to have it's greenspace and trees restored and become I Dream of Dreamland (see the home page).

I have just read Bob's post and can hardly type this post through laughing.

Bob you confirm the idiot you are time and time again.

Perhaps you can confirm that Dreamland is open, then maybe when I have a guarantee that it is OPEN, I will travel all the way down from Birmingham with my husband and children this weekend.

Are you able to answer this question?

Cheryl, Bob can only answer less simple questions.

If it does open it will be late (not viable to open on time)

I don't normally rise to Bob Baiting, but just this once.

To paraphrase Field of Dreams:

If you SAFETY AUDIT it, ADVERTISE it, INVEST in it and OPEN it

They will come

If you don't do those things, they will not come.

I am not going to spend £20 on a return ticket to Margate to be greeted by a pair of closed gates!

If you recall, there was talk of it opening for the 1st May bank holiday, taking the Bob approach of come down every day to support it's opening day that would have meant £20 x 23 = £460 which I would rather spend on something else.

People on this campaign, people in Thanet, people in Kent, people across the whole of the South East all support Dreamland, but if they don't know it is open or they come down to find it closed they will get rightfully frustrated.

UPDATE:

According to the Thanet Times (23/5) the Park will be opening THIS FRIDAY for weekends only for the next 6 weeks, then all week for the rest of the summer.

There is another ride coming in addition to what is already there and the wheel will be returning after its 2 week holiday

So far public attendence at the big wheel & Dreamland has been pathetic. For most of the time there have been only a handfull of visitors.

Our Bob's not as clued up as he'd like us to think is he? As the park hasn't even opened yet I assume the handful of visitors had scaled the barricades...

Firstly can we please stop being so judgemental-for the records we have seen no evience to suggest that the 3 legged cat would not make a good operator.

I agree that Dreamgirlz might be Bob related, but let's not jump to conclusions, I know that a while ago a member tried to accuse me of being Bob stirring up trouble when I said I had a personal grudge against Jimmy Godden, and again this was way off. It would be good to see Dreamgirlz speak for herself, but whether she will or not remains to be seen.

Sorry to sound ingnorant, but what is this flying coaster? I'm guessing to say Air would be rather getting my hopes up.

Finally Bob seems to have done a lot of observing lately-outside the disco, outside Dreamland. I don't suppose that would be Bob hiding behind the tree over there would it? Is that you Bob? Do you look like something that's escaped off the Lord of the Rings set? Right, that would be you then!

Hi everyone, I just read in the Gazette that Dreamland will bo open from Friday (today), I know that my little outburst last week did'nt go down very well :( , but it seemed to me that the Save Dreamland Campaigners were so full of negativity, that i could'nt help myself, why are we writing about last years operator and not this years? I know I am new to this forum but i have been interested in Dreamland for quite some time, and only really want to see a thriving Thanet, and if a travelling funfair is what it takes to keep the park open then thats good enough for me, lets hope that this year is a hit and that next year is even better.
Dreamland rocks!!!

Thanks for clearing that up Dreamgirlz. The reason last year is important is because a few Councillors and the local MP are trying to fob us off with saying that the park will probably have to be housing because visitor numbers have fallen over recent years. As such it's important for us to analyse the last few reasons and try and see whether there are any obvious reasons for this. There almost certainly are which is why many of us are very annoyed with the Council and need to keep highlighting what has happened to try and show why Council policy is mis-guided. I too hope that this season can be good and I am getting increasingly optimisitc and the website has changed my views on some issues. Hope for the best expect the worst...
