Rome/Dreamland Wasnt Built In A Day

I have read with interest the posts regarding dreamland and had to register in the forum to voice my 10 cents worth of opinion
Dreamland was ruined by the Bembom brothers charging everyone entry fees whether you rode or not this was offputting to many families who would spend on the sideshows eat from the catering units but did not want to ride the machines making it way expensive
There is no way after the years of decline that I would expect all of a sudden to see a spanking new theme park with all the latest big hitters present in the first year of a mans tenure
The whinging and whining makes me mad from some so called supporters of the park
what has to be understood is that the task being undertaken by the new people is a mamoth one to get everything ready so instead of criticising and complaining why not phone up the park and ask if you could turn up with a paintbrush or mop and bucket and do something positive
It is too easy for some people to sit at a keyboard and moan it is another thing to get off your backsides and help
without residents attending the park it sends out all the wrong signalls to showmen who would probably consider placing big hitters there if there was a smidgen of positive postings instead of a pletherer of negativity
If I was a showman reading these posts I would never consider attending Margate as it is obvious the people in the town only want huge attractions costing millions of pounds that only open in the summer
support Dreamland this year give the people who have turned up with equiptment some moral support let the positive attitude be the rule of the day
Then perhaps you never know bigger and better will follow
from a tiny acorn huge oak trees grow

Well Strongbow, you need to get your facts right before you start spouting off at members of this site! Many offers of help have always been on offer to operators of the park including one from myself but for some reason no one wants any help, free advertising has been offered but the operators want to charge thousands of pounds to allow people to feature the park in programmes and news stories for TV. So please do your research properly before you start having a go ! If it wasnt for the work put in to this campaign over the last three years I dare say there would no park at all at the moment !

Interestingly enough, on the following page.. http://www.atfotf97.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15541 you will find someone also called strongbow who instead of being an exotic dancer, is actually the owner of the Zipper which is installed in Dreamland.

Some coincidence. If you want help cleaning up the park, why not ask, instead of coming on here and bashing us?

And why post comments on another thread making out you are outside the park gazing in in wonder?

Very strange behavior indeed. Your asking us to be happy about the way the park is being run, when someone involved in the park behaves like this????

We're all hoping for a positive result and a restored Dreamland. Those of us who understand what's involved know this will be a long process and the core members here, are infact, very upbeat.

Negativity is generally directed at the property owners, who we also understand are just looking out for their investment interest. I think where we differ is in our opinion of trying to recreate the past versus bulldozing it for yet more housing and shopping.

We're happy an operator is opening the park this year and grateful for it.

A few naysayers don't speak for the majority of us.

Whilst it could just be one of those unlucky coincidences I'd guess it was a little bit more deliberate than that. Oh well, we must be doing something right if we're rattling people this much !

So as we suspected this guy here is a fake i have posted this here as the origianl strongbow 55 was having problems finding this forum.

From the postings by the real guy as above he seems committed to Dreamland and wants to help make it pay.

I don't mind who you are Strongbow: ride owner, interested Margatonian, whatever. You're entitled to your opinion. However, it is true that the Campaign has offered help and support on numerous occasions in the past, both in terms of marketing and getting a group of people together to help clean the place up.

The one thing that connects all of us - well, very nearly all - on this Forum is that we want to see Dreamland thrive. If you detect negativity, that will be our frustration. And, in some cases, some residual resentment at how things have been done up to this point.

We all know that Rome wasn't built in a day; we're not dewy-eyed optimists who expect a quick fix. It's not true that the people of Margate only want huge multi-million pound attractions either. I, for one, want some commitment, passion and enthusiasm much more than I want shiny new scary rides.

And it's a bit unfair to suggest that residents haven't shown their support by attending the park when the park isn't even open yet. Sadly, because of the number of opening dates that have been announced this year, even once the park is open it will probably take a while for that information to filter through.

So, yes let's hope for bigger and better things to follow. But please, don't knock those of us who have worked our arses off for the last three years to ensure that there is still a space called Dreamland to be hopeful about.

Hi all

Just had a thanks PM on th eother forum from the real strongbow 55 for posting his message here about him havng no connection with our Strongbow he has also given the information below on another new attraction that will be comming to dreamland for the summer.

"Bought a Giant Bungee yesterday which will be ready for the school summer holidays which will be going into Dreamland at the main gate
to operate with my other ride"

For those that dont know or who have not been over the other forum Strongbow 55 is the owner of the zipper.

I agree that this is an odd coinicidence and I guess unless Strongbow explains himself/herself they will have less credibibility in future.

There might be a little truth in that, but it's a reductionist attitude and it's unlikely that this alone ruined the park and the current owners did more than their fair share. It is also worth pointing out that whatever your opinion you will presumably admit their heart was in the right place, something I doubt we can say for the present owners. The Bembom's skills speek for themslevs and they have done wonders for Scottland's Loudon Castles, but Jimmy Godden on the other hand has led to Dreamland's destruction.

Well you seem to be moaning about us so I am guessing that this is from personal experience. As has been said we have offered help, but you must understand that to an extent this is a hobby and there are limits to what we can do to help Dreamland without being paid. It's things like Dreamland that make life fun, which is why it's so important to us. Several people have come onto the board and asked us to do things like unpaid litter picking for Jimmy Godden and what have you, but I can't help thinking that by doing so we would not be helping save Dreamland, but making crooked businessmen even richer.

My name is steve and I am from Sittingbourne
I love margate and I love dreamland Like the many others on here from reading some posts I fully support the save dreamland campaign
I currently have 1 ride on the dreamland site the zipper
which I have just recently purchased from slaters in carlisle it was made by chance usa in 1970 and is
1 of only 2 of these rides in the country the other being owned by charmaine wilson
I am looking foreward to working in margate this season and hopefully meeting many of you for a natter
I have to say though webb amusements are working really hard to bring the park to life and I am proud to have my machine there as part of the effort
I must buy one of those T shirts

We'll be very interested to hear what you think of the park and of the prospects as the season continues.

Please see the main page and the I Dream of Dreamland section for a possible vision of the future. We think trees, grass and some attractive and permenant new buildings are just what the place needs. We know it's sort of a parking lot right now.
