Well if you are really interested in property it is always best to see it for yourself but from my point of view only it's definity not the best you can get from Margate. Margate has some lovely old houses/flats around the place and all you need to do is look.
If you are serious about this I sugguest you take a weekend trip around Kent or depending how many places you want to look around maybe quite a few weekends. Sorry but I don't know alot about folkstone but I'm sure if you just search it would come up with alot of information centers and websites.

I apologise for doubting u but imposters have well known to the forum and they are normally members who provide very little information about themselves and create severall identaties. It may be usefull to edit your membership so forum members can see where you are from as it currently is blank which is why i grew suspiscious as this is what Bob used to do. Good luck in your house search and as for dreamland living next door to it would be great, no its not to noisy at the moment, but the idea of the campaign is to increase dreamlands popularity and increase the visitor numbers so it may well become noisy in the future with the right investment, but hey whats a little noise? i live near Luton town football club, and they dont come much noiser than the fans from that!!

Hi House search,
The reason I asked where you found about the forum is not so much because it's suppossed to be top secret, but because it's useful to know where people hear about us. The campaign is publicised in a number of ways, so I really meant it as a bit of market research.
In terms of universities I guess the main one is Cantabury. There are other ones (and possibly a Thanet University?). For these it would probably depend a lot on the subject. I'm currently going through Unis myself, so if you can give me an idea of subject I can look up Kent Universitys in a Times guide I've got and try and give you some better indication.
Education in Ramsgate might be a little iffy. A few years ago Ramsgate went through a bit of a bad patch. Someone more local than myself might give you a better idea though. Ramsgate did have a model villiage (which incidentally had buildings from Dreamland), however people broke in and vandalised it a couple of times and it ended uo closing. This may not bode well, but that said I think the place is now improving.
Margate itself is a very nice place with lots of charcter, beach etc. Shopping might be the town's weakness as an out of town shopping centre has opened near by (not sure whether there's a regualr bus service).
Folkestone does have problems at the moment, but they are apparently trying to sort this out. Dover's a nice place and obviously very historic, but I think unemployment might be quite high.
In terms of Arlington House if you've watched a film called 'The Last Resort' then Arlington House plays quite a part.
In terms of amusement park noise I can see why this is a worry, however it's probably no worse than something like a night club. These days rides have got quieter as new types of fibre glass wheels have come on the market and foam can be added to the track. Screaming may also be a problem, but it might not be as bad as you think. Again there are ways parks can get round this like installing sound barriers. Arlington House is next to a railway which could be almost as much of a problem.

we are up in the north and this venture has proved to us how little we know about your part of the world. untill now, i thought kent was a haven. now i found out that nearly every name of a place is connected to a 'problem' which is why you feedback is so valuable to me.

I have family up in Folkestone. It is quite a nice place to live and is fortunate enough to have a good mix of chains besides some local shops. Things like a rock shop (where you see it being made) and a specialist collectors shop are not the kind of things you use day in and day out, but give the town some identity. They have also spent a lot on a recreation area near the sea front.
Unfortunately the Council have made some contoversial decissions. For example they allowed a horse to be carved out in the cliff even though it angered a lot of people. It has various environmental implications and not only cost a lot to establish, but also to maintain. At the same time the Council have pushed contoversial issues such as this to the top of their agenda at the expense of what people really seem to care about which has called rsentment. For example they are behind on recycling and litter and dog mess has also become a bit of a problem. The Council are also allowing several key land marks such as the railway bridge across the harbour to be demolished, besides supporting a bid to build high rise housing on the town's amusement park. As always a Council that refuses to listen causes resentment.
The town also has problems after Hover Speed pulled out of hover crafts a while ago which has left a large derelict area, although this too is now scheduled for redevelopment. It does seem that the town is now being well and truely turned from a tourist location to a London commuter town. So far in the transition a lot has been lost and little has been gained, but hopefully this will change. I don't want to put you off, as I have several family members living there and they seem very happy. I think the main local employer is SAGA if that helps. I'm not sure what getting a top job would be like, but a middling job seems to be within reach.

There are quite a lot of places to take people who vistit for days out. Casltles are a big thing with Leeds castle, Dover Castle, Deal Castle. You also get the sea air. to be honest, im not too worried about the jobs available as i'm sure i'll find something, and i will be able to commute.
i'm more interested in the transport links ( to london and other large towns ), local shops,colleges and so on.
i've never been, and never will be, a person to live in a small village where they have to travel just to get some milk, so i'd like a few tescos or asda's close by. is there a large shopping center in the area ?
how far would you say folkestone is from ashford, by car ? just to give me an idea of the distance to the nearest college. ( also so i know roughly what im looking at on the map ).
like any other place, even those with a good reputation, there will be a section which you would want to avoid. are there any particular areas of folkestone that you would regard as such ?
i am looking into coming down to the kent area to have a look at some places, but it's very difficult to find a place for rent, that isn't looking for a long term contract, and to commit to such, would be mad as i don't know the place.
ian did suggest coming down for a few days, but along with the expense of travelling, it's something i wouldn't be able to do often.

Try Google, just type in something like "estate agents in Folkestone" that should get you started.As for transport, there is a train service that runs to London and surrounding areas.

i am now making planns to travel down to the kent area on the 18th of july.
