Hard to tell in the photos. Peeling paint can make it look worse than it is. All that means is that it wasn't prepped properly.

In somewhay your right the paint could just be pealing paint, but...

theres always a but.

Whilst I have done courses in corrosion control (mostly metal) where the paint has pealed off it means the structure itself is now under attack the rain and salt spray from the very very near by sea will get down behind the pealing paint and just sit there slowly eating in to the structure.

What needs to be done is somebody go over to the structure and clean off the paint that is shot and knock on the wood and listen to the sound of the knock if its a "hollow echoing" sound that rot has set in if ist a nice big hurt your hand soldin thud than its good (a very basic test!) now re-paint the bare wood, at least this method will give the structure some of of protection from the weather and salt laiden air.

Thanks for that footage I Mansfield I've never seen that coaster actually running. Brilliant.

It actually looked like it gave quite a quick (and quiet ?) ride for a side friction. Let's hope someone takes it on.

Yup. Quick in a Wild Mouse sort of way.
It's still capable of giving the kids a thrill after 85 years.
I believe it's circa 1920 or 21, right?

I thought the ride was all set to go to Kilarney Springs.

I wonder why this has not happened. It would be nice to save this unique, historical ride.

Maybe if the community of coaster enthusiasts could throw their weight behind a project to help with the restoration of this ride then maybe it would encourage someone to buy it.

... it just needs someone to make the contacts, find out what is needed to be done and get the wheels in motion. Then maybe it can be saved!

HOLD ON. IT IS LISTED AS 'UNDER CONSTRUCTION' AT KILLARNEY SPRINGS on rcdb.com. Their season starts on 27th March. So is it still at Folkestone now or not?

Yes the ride is still at Folkestone. I go past it every day on my way to work so will post an update as soon as I see anything happening with the ride.

The Runaway coaster is being demolished as I write this. It should all be flattened by tonight. I do have some pictures but I've got no idea how to attach them on here. I'll hopefully put them on the web somewhere over the weekend.
