Vintage Seaside film night - Margate - 13th May 2010

Postby porf » 16 Apr 2010, 07:04

I've posted this over on the seaside forum, but as it'll contain Dreamland footage and it's to raise funds for the Shell Grotto (which has been the home of the campaign) I'm sticking it here as well:

To raise funds for the Shell Grotto there's an evening of Seaside Films showing at the Walpole Bay Hotel on the 13th of May 2010.

The flyer is shown below and more details are available here : http://www.shellgrottofriends.org/events.html

I would have loved to be able to get to this event, but sadly I simply can't :(

Would there be any possibility of making these old films into a compilation DVD after the showing, and selling them to the public (for Save Dreamland funds), or would that be fraught with copyright issues? I'd certainly buy one!

Hi all

I replied to my e-mail invite straight away, so all being well, I will be there along with a couple of others who I also joined recently as Friends of the Shell Grotto.

Look forward to meeting everyone on another night that looks to be very interesting. Funnily enough, after seeing Jo's reply to this, one of my friends suggested maybe making a DVD copy of all the films screened on the night. If that was possible, it would indeed be a great money spinner for Dreamland Margate. However, there could now be the format disc war to consider; what with the launch of Blu-ray discs, but then I would imagine high definition wouldn't really come into the equation here.

This event has proved phenomenally popular and it's now sold out. We're organising Vintage Film Night: The Sequel, and I'll post the next date and venue here in case anyone's interested in coming along.

Hi Sarah,

Would have loved to have come to this, but sadly not down until the next bank holiday. If the next one is during that week (hint hint!) you can put us down as definites.

I'm sure the evening will be a great success.

A nice, well run, well attended event.

Personal faves:

The clips of the Winter Gardens when it had an amphitheatre layout and views through to the sea. The views through it must have been stunning.

The nightclub footage from under the Lido.

And last but not least "The bag on your head beauty competition" - seen a similar photo before but much funnier when it's moving film and the bags have "ears".

Congrats to all involved!

Nice to meet up with a few people from here, had to flee at the end though as it's a "school night"!

Edit: Found a "bag on your head" photo as it's too odd to describe : http://www.flickr.com/photos/harry619/3697984023/in/set-72157621162924106/

Cheers
