Limited edition fundraising calendar now available

Sorry to appear to duplicate the news item, but if you have arrived at the site without looking at the front page, please go back to the latest entry in the news section to read about the limited edition calendar which is now available. Thanet Press of Margate has generously supported this project. The calendar features photos of Dreamland and the Shell Grotto and is essentially its customer calendar for 2009. As a result of using some of my photos, Thanet Press readily agreed to print 200 extra copies. The money from these sales will directly assist SDC and the Grotto - buy now while stocks last, they make an ideal Christmas pressie.

If you were at the Grotto's Halloween event, you might have seen a proof of the calendar at the time. The finished result is every bit as good. The calendar design exudes quality and class. It measures about 13 inches (330mm) square and is black and white throughout. Sure to be a collectible!

As you will see on the news page things are a little delayed on the website, however, the calendar can be bought by post and full details of how to do that are included in the news article.

I ordered two calendars which have now arrived.

I would thoroughly recommend them as christmas presents. They are of excellent quality, a good size and are a lovely pictorial of Dreamland past, The Shell Grotto and The Lido. A must have!

AND ABOVE ALL - ITS FOR A VERY WORTHWHILE AND WORTHY CAUSE.

I should point out - as this is a Dreamland forum! - that only two months are given over to the Grotto. As we're all struggling with images, here's a run down of contents:

January - Cinema exterior
February - Dreamland, 1922, including ferris wheel
March - Grotto interior
April - Motorboats ride, 1940s
May - Cinema interior
June - Bathing beauties at the Lido, 1930s
July - Brooklands Racers, 1949
August - (biggest) Big Wheel, 1980s

November - Skywheels, 1950s night-time shot - my favourite!
December - Scenic, early 1920s.

Glad to see several people are buying more than one calendar each. I'm really glad people are pleased with them too. Please tell your friends.

In case anyone in the Whitstable vicinity would like to buy one and can't get to the Grotto this weekend, I will have a few on sale at the East Kent Model Railway Society's open day at its Old Dairy clubhouse in Castle Road - the building behind Castle Stores. Event runs between 10am and 4pm.

BTW Lovelys in Northdown Road, Cliftonville, have been kind enough to take half a dozen copies as well if you prefer to buy one in the week.

Hi all -

Well, I at last seized an opportunity to promote the Campaign and the calendars today on the radio during my lunch hour.

I was tuned into London's Smooth Radio (102.2 FM), listening to the Lynn Parsons afternoon show when she did a feature inviting listeners to call/text/e-mail in examples of new calendars they'd received over Christmas. I thought this was a prime chance to further broadcast the awareness of this Campaign calendar etc, so I sent a text into the studio.

Surprisingly, Lynn read it out, making a few comments regarding the plight of Dreamland, mentioning that she wasn't sure if it was still open now. She wished everyone associated with the Campaign all the very best and appeared genuinely interested. Perhaps, we'll now get a few new visitors here, apart from selling on a few more calendars. (Listeners might hopefully do an internet search for Dreamland).

I felt quite chuffed with my little deed; just the inspiration required to attract a broader audience. What a great subject the presenter chose today!

I'm sure Jim from the USA will be pleased with my efforts here, especially as it's all so easy to just talk about actually doing stuff like this.

Good on yer Martin. Sounds like an invaluable plug here. Both home and office are proudly adorned with copies of said calendar. Hope sales are going well. Happy New Year to all.
