Can't See the Wood(ie) For the Sea

I was just recalling last year's off-loading of a load of timber from a stricken vessel in the sea about this time last year, when lo and behold, another near-similar situation has once again happened. This time apparently a Norway vessel off the Newhaven coast (England, UK).

On Meridian Tonight News earlier tonight they said some of the timber was expected to possibly reach the shores of places such as Dymchurch. Sadly, they do not have a wooden coaster there in desperate need of a makeover. Perhaps we can keep our fingers crossed that some of the timber finds its way to the Thanet coastline. (It probably won't make the grade for coaster building though, I would guess, but you never know).

Obviously, I am somewhat making rather light of this incident, but last year in Worthing where the similar incident occurred, there were several news reports of "looting" along the beach. I cannot condone such activity, however I recall that on an earlier Scenic Railway fire years ago some wood from a pier (Lowestoft?) was used in its rebuilding.

Sadly the wood will now be of no use for such a project at the Scenic as it would have been in the sea too long.

Hey everyone- Meridian Tonight News have just featured a load of wood piled up on the beach at Ramsgate.

I loved the way someone had created a "welcome to Thanet" sign across the length of the beach. I'm not sure if any of the stricken load has reached the Margate shores yet. Perhaps someone local could keep a watchful eye and maybe take some photos to post here for interest.

Before we possibly get too excited though, the report did say that it is illegal to take any wood without the owner's consent. I really wonder though if it would be exactly viable for them to retrieve much of it though, plus it will probably be rather damaged as the last poster here said.

I just think it would be quite symbolic though if a heap of the stuff were to show up opposite the Dreamland building. What a temptation it could present to us enthusiasts! (I don't reckon it'll be Canadian fir though)
