Replica ride for Dreamland?

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

They will eventually, so even if they're rescued as they go out of use and are put in store (where?) for a decade or so, that's a good thing.

My vote would be for the Virginia Reel as a real crowd puller - I never rode it at Blackpool though I was 11 when it went, but then my personal taste is more for the more restful dark rides like the "Round the World in 80 Days" vintage car ride that was on Llandudno pier in the mid 1970s - I loved it aged 5, and was devastated when it was replaced by a ghost train.
In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice, but in practice, there is.

I have no doubt someone will have a picture for you.

(I'm a wuss too, River Caves is what I'm looking forward too... and a ghost train as long as not too scary...)

Not the Llandudno one, but a more "River Caves" type at Alton Towers:

Only installed in 1981 apparently but the four photos give a flavour

Although Camelot have only had their coaster Nightmare for a couple of seasons it would fit perfectly into the whole preserving steel coasters debate!
Scharzkopft coasters are disapearing at a rapid rate and it's about time someone did something to preserve one in the UK before they are all gone!

Agreed I love a Schwarzkopf coaster and it is disappointing at the rate they are vanishing. I always say to my wife if I ever won the lotto I would have my own Schwartzkopf in the garden!

But another ride that would be good would be an Octopus can't remember the last time I saw one plus it was a Dreamland favourite for years.

I often wonder what happened to the old Cine 200s.

Loud non dolby screeching sounds inside a dome accompanying a film of (invariably) a Galleon Ride, a coaster and a view from a speeding taxi..and there was always that emergency stop at the end when all standing viewers would veer forward, laugh, gasp and then be shown the exit.

:D

You forgot the fire engine that has to screech to a stop so it doesn't hit the baby's pram :D

I was looking at a arieal photo of Dreamland just yesterday and the frame work was showing from the Cine dome, they used it to enclose a 'tilt-o-whirl' in the corner of the park and it got me thinking are there any left. I think the last one I saw was at Drayton Manor about 9 years ago.

Also what is the difference between a 'tilt-o-whirl' and a Waltzer? The reason I thought the enclosed ride was a 't-o-w' was it felt a totally different ride to a Waltzer, it was more metal than wood and didn't spin as freely as even the worst Waltzer I had ever been on.

Maybe Dave can clarify what that ride actually was?

The ride you are refering to was called 'Night Rider' and did not stay at the park for very long, if I remember rightly there was an incident on the ride and it closed shortly afterwards. Was a very slow waltzer in the dark which was situated under the old cinema dome as AJ stated in an earlier post.

I should have written Cine 2000 not Cine 200 :)

Yes I remember it being called Cine 180 as well - The one at the Pleasure Beach was situated near where The Avalanche is now.
