Another rare ride acquired for Dreamland - please help!

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

We've done it!

News page today:

Saturday, 27 June 2009

Junior Whip appeal target reached!

JUNIOR WHIP APPEAL - TARGET £632.50
CURRENT TOTAL £690

**TARGET REACHED**

On 13 June, we announced the acquisition of the Junior Whip ride from Pleasure Beach Blackpool. We also stated that we had a shortfall of £632.50 and appealed for contributions towards this. Two weeks later and the target has been reached.

Chair of The Dreamland Trust, Nick Laister, states: "I am extremely pleased that we have not only reached our target but we have done it in the remarkable time of under two weeks. On behalf of all of the trustees, can I thank everybody who has made a contribution, however big and small. These contributions have made this small but important part of our proposals a reality and we genuinely could not have done it without you. This also means that we can continue to have the confidence to search out other similar opportunities knowing that we have such strong support behind us."

The surplus will be used by the Trust to fund future ride acquisitions or for other emergency funding required to deliver the new Dreamland Margate. .

I have no doubt, however, that further donations will still be welcome, in order to have something in the depleted Dreamland piggy bank for future needs!

Great work people - it shows the commitment of so many to this cause, which is about so much more than simply an amusement park.

From a much longer piece on the News page (with pictures and everything folks...)

Junior Whip benefactor revealed

In previous news items we mentioned that the cost of the acquisition of the Junior Whip from Pleasure Beach Blackpool was met by a benefactor. We can now reveal that the benefactor is Save Dreamland Campaign member Dave Love, whose contribution made this acquisition possible. Here are some photographs of Dave with the ride he has donated to the Trust, and other photographs of the ride being unloaded - click on the thumbnail for a larger version.

Thank you thank you thank you Dave, what wonderful generosity, and thank you from an 'ordinary Dreamland campaign member' to everyone who donated cash to help with the other costs, especially those for whom a donation was a struggle at this time of financial uncertainty, and thank you to our campaign leaders who did the deal, loaded the ride at one end and saw if off at the other, and anyone and everyone else connected with this who helped in any way with loading, transport, unloading etc.

Now, it's all fingers and everything else crossed for the grants!

I would also like to echo EAS's comments regarding Dave's very special, kind and generous gift towards this cause. I think it's quite comforting to hear of people thinking of others' future enjoyment. It restores my often somewhat battered perception of 21st century human nature.

The installation and operation of this ride will certainly be something to behold in the not too distant future. It will surely be a joy to think that so many of us contributed to such a spectacle.

Miracles really can happy it seems, especially in this land of dreams.

From the Donations part of the site:

TOTAL DONATIONS SINCE THE SCENIC RAILWAY FIRE ON 7 APRIL 2008: £2584.76

That's wonderful, although I suspect a great deal of that has also now been spent.

I have no doubt all donations are still welcome. The Dreamland Trust is still reliant on the campaign and donations, despite press reports of grants and such...
