Loved the 'Seaside Day' one - although a bit before my time, it brought back loads of memories. I wonder if they still sell those same sandcastle flags? I must have bought so many sets of them over the years.....

I think so - although they are plastic, not paper, nowadays, and of course 'bucket and spade' shops aren't as common as they once were! In my yoof, buckets were of painted metal, as were spades, with wooden handles. But there again, bathing costumes when I was small were wool. (Makes it all seem another world!).

I love this short clip, not only for the shots of the Scenic but because of the clothes being worn for the beach activities. One woman is even wearing a fur coat! The joys of a British summer, eh? No wonder so many resorts had indoor 'Winter Gardens' to which you could retreat. Especially required as so many seaside borading houses chucked you out after breakfast, and you were not allowed to return until late afternoon. You could sit shivering on a deck chair, or sit inside a shelter, if it poured, but return to digs? No chance.

The clothes in all of these are fascinating. So much formality, every one dressed up in their best, 'leisure' clothes then and now are very different!

Possibly something which can be explored in the 'youth culture' exhibitions planned for the 'new Dreamland'.
