The only way he can be forced to sell is via a compulsory purchase order (CPO), which the council would only use as a last resort. But as the Council seems happy to settle with something other than a tourist attraction on the Dreamland site, then the chances of a CPO being used is slim.

Thanet District Council should look at other seaside resorts, such as Great Yarmouth and Blackpool, where councils protect tourist attractions in the main tourist areas by using policies in their Local Plans.

The funny think Nick, is that I have visited Blackpool and Great Yarmoth in the last few years. Have I been to Bournemouth?

No. Why, because it doesn't have anything special, just sand, sea and old people.

I can see a pattern there - it's a shame that Thanet Council can't work it out!

Hello Vince,

I think you've hit the nail on the head there, as they say. It is just a shame, like you implied, that TDC cannot see another view beyond what appears to be a rose-tinted glass one.

As Tesco might say.... once it's gone it's gone.

Enough said.

I reckon future generations would wish to crucify us if we had just stood still and let the various connected parties run gunshot over their proposed redevelopment for the Dreamland site. We obviously have this once-only opportunity to save this cherished park, with the jewel in its crown, the Scenic Railway.

We had to go to Southend early this year and I was amazed at the quality of their theme park and the amount of people there on not a particularly nice day! It was buzzing! It looked so attractive with plants, palms etc that anyone passing, even if not interested in theme parks normally, would want to at least walk through! I can't remember the last time I felt like a leisurely walk through Dreamland! Why can't the Council go up and visit and see what they are missing - please tell them to go - and then come back and still say that theme parks are not viable!! I remember in my youth (60's) the queues outside Dreamland - Southend was NOT the place to go. Well done Southend - come to Thanet and help us!

Southend -adventure island

Yep, I agree, why can't Dreamland be bought and why can't the council allow someone who knows what their doing, do it!!
If a carload of council officials drove up to Adventure Island for the day they could experience a really good day out, perhaps even meet with their counterparts at the council and discuss the way forward.......however this would mean that they would have to leave their desks an do something...they would have to use their company cars and venture out of Thanet (and perhaps at last have an idea of what we're all on about).
Perhaps the attraction of all that lovely council tax, from all those flats that JG wants to sell Dreamland for is just too much.
Nick who do we email at the council????
