TV programme - History of Rollercoasters

Just noticed this in the Radio Times - tomorrow (7th October) on Channel Five at 7.30pm: Building the Ultimate - "A history of the engineering ingenuity deployed in rollercoasters, from modest beginnings in 19th-century Russia to today's vast, hurtling rides that loop, twist and corkscrew".

It's billed as a repeat, but I certainly haven't seen it before and I thought other people who visit the forum might be interested.

Some good archive snippets of Rye Airplane etc. and scenic footage if I'm not mistaken but a bit too much on S&S launched hyper stuff, yawn!

I haven't watched it yet, but if it is the programme I think it is, I appear briefly on the big dipper at Backpool, sitting with Dr John Roberts. It was filmed a few years ago (perhaps 2003 or 2004). I didn't have a speaking part though (and I had clothes on...shock horror).

I have recorded it on my Sky+ Box to watch at the weekend.

I caught up with it last night - thought it was very interesting, though I'd have liked there to have been more footage of the older rides.

I would never have imagined that roller-coasters evolved from slides, though! Does that mean that helter-skelters are from the same family?
