Vintage Seaside film night - Margate - 13th May 2010

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Nice to meet up with quite a few people once again. The films were really good, and some quite poignant as seeing places like the former Butlin's hotels brought back quite a few personal memories. It's very hard to think how places like them are now no longer available; think my Dad must have relished the dance floor shots as my parents used to regularly frequent their hallowed boards. I even stayed there one night back in the eighties.

Despite reflecting on past nostalgia I feel that there is a renewed "Margate buzz" evolving as the resort looks set for a real rebirth.

I also enjoyed those shots of the Winter Gardens' former views to the sea. I wonder if the place could ever be transformed for their upcoming centenary celebrations?
