I've just driven past Godden's Gap and it is being fenced off as we speak.



I wonder if there is a reason for this?

As far as i'm aware the local authority are tidying up the seafront area including the Arlington Square area. Probably to look good prior to the opening of the Turner Centre. Its a shame they didn't do something to tidy it up sooner.

What is meant to be happening to the gap? I presume that it is not going to be part of the dreamland heritage park as the park do not own the land.

Evening All, that’ll be the Dreamland hoardings commissioned by The Dreamland Trust due to be fully installed end of March ready to tell Margate’s visitors about the Dreamland Margate project. Best wishes.

Thanks for that information Jan. I was just thinking, maybe with the Turner Contemporary opening approaching, there might be some interest in getting local artist(s) to create a fitting muriel (if I spelt that right) to highlight the project's future attractions. We could possibly create some kind of competition for the best design etc. Just an idea, unless a professional design has already been commissioned.

Otherwise we could opt for a Disney style hoarding with "pardon our mess whilst we create a new experience for your future enjoyment" (or something along those lines). Let the discussion begin?

That is true, but to my mind the place where "Mr G's arcade" stood before it burnt down would make the perfect entrance to Dreamland. It has been said here before that the old entrance was dark and uninviting and I have always agreed with that.

I always thought the 'gap' would have been great for the sky lift going out across the beach. That would have been fab advertising and a draw to visitors into Dreamland. Sadly, I don't think this can happen.

I remember getting my first ever glimpse of the Scenic through the Gap, it's good that the park can be seen from the seafront, but I suppose whether or not this remains the case in the long term is not in the hands of the Trust.

Trees. Every 15 meters or so, there needs to be a tree.
Trees are pretty. Trees are inviting. Trees make a stroll down the way pleasant.

I take your point about trees, I think the warning sign for most of us was when a previous owner of Dreamland had all of the trees removed, even receiving a £500,000 eu grant to have them removed.

...hence the boring, unattractive concrete slab that is Dreamland now.

Trees would also be the easiest way to unite the seafront buildings with minimal work on their facades.
