Scenic Railway Opening

I am working with harry ayers and his guy's to get the Scenic Railway up and running at the moment. Alot of work is being carried out at the moment so far its looking good and will be up and running soon. We have big plans for this ride like music and lights to brighten it up and giving it a paint job. so all look's good for summer

How much of the site is being used, or is everything being put behind the Scenic

Great to hear things are progressing well with the Scenic. It would be very nice to have a new lick of paint around the attraction (I used to prefer the main structure in white). It would also be wonderful (if it hasn't been destroyed) to see the "Scenic Rlwy" illuminated lifthill top sign return to grace the side of the highest lifthill once again. I remember that from the late seventies/ possibly early eighties.

Good luck to all for their valiant efforts to relaunch the park for this season. (If a circus is also to be staged at the park this year I guess most of the grounds would have to be in use this time round to accommodate all the attractions). I personally feel that this would only be a good thing to transform the rather sad existing "car park" feel to the place.

Hi Martin - yes, it's funny how nostalgia takes us! I too would love to see the old SCENIC RLY illuminated sign back - and the curved "Sit Down" sign atop the second lift hill - mostly though a return of the old tunnel at the end of the ride which gave it a great finish.
When I was a regular visitor in the early sixties, there were two little disc signs out at Sarre which read on one side "You are only seven miles from Dreamland Margate" and on the other "Alas, you are now seven miles from Dreamland Margate" - one sign which could promote huge excitement and disappointment on each trip!

Although i am pleased to hear that the park will be opening this season,I have heard from a reliable source that the scenic will not be run by dave or simon (and not even john ) Its going to be run by Mr Ayers and his crew. No problem with that (ALTHOUGH IT WONT BE THE SAME WITHOUT THE MAIN THREE ). Looks like one of Mr Ayers crew is local to the park and put his first post on the forum on tuesday 05.04.2005. Id just like to ask JOHN PAUL where he gets off STEALING the ideas from others,(lights music etc ). I would also like to know why you're letting people know you've been running the scenic for the last seven years. By the way how's your health nowaday's. The last time i was down i heard
you were in no fit state to drive the scenic let alone maintain a ride as big as the scenic. I also remember you wasn't going to join the dreamland campaign as you was a member of the JG club . Sorry if this offends but the park will not get my APPROVAL this year.

you see johnw for a start you dont no me, its people like you the listen to gossip an get it all wrong. i have worked for JG for 2 seasons and 4 straight yrs so where does 7 come from? and the lights music etc are to do harry ayers its what he wants to do to make the ride better so its not stealing ideas. so why mone as its what people like you and others want . health wise ????????? lost me there im fine and any i did have did not affect any1 else. i think its gossip that causses most problems. i have nothing against the save dreamland Campaign and its good that you all dont want to see it go but the is nothing that can be done really as its up to the company that owns the land what gets done with it. All i can say too you all is that the the ride will look good this year. almost forgot i see johnw made his first post on the forum on THURSDAY 07 Apr 2005 or mabe its the same reason as me did not have access?

Hi JP you know who i am so im not getting involved in the disagreements u are having with john, just wanted to point out that you are stating what you think and not what you know, the facts are that regardless of who owns the land they still have to go through planning permission and the site also has a grade 2 listed structure on the site which cannot be removed without prior permission, or set fire to for that matter! there is an inquiry being looked into at the moment regarding the possible future uses for the Dreamland site and untill those findings are made public then no decisions can be made.

I love the retro look, I went to Dreamland when I was about 6 in 1981...I absolutely loved it. What I liked the most was the big wheel. It was like a beacon and it was really exciting a you got closer to it when walking to the park. It would be absolutely fantastic if a big wheel in similar design could be installed in the park, then it really would be dreamland.

I totaly agree i and many other people have fond memorys of that grand Thanet landmark.
I understand it is still in containers in Mexico since 1999 and has never been fixed together since.

Yes, I also seem to remember those two Dreamland road signs whem my parents drove us to the park for my inaugural visit (in summer 1977 I believe). I don't recall the finale Scenic tunnel, but have heard about it; not sure exactly when it was removed, but I'm sure someone has told me at some point before).

Many thanks for your posting, and sorry I've taken so long to respond, but domestic and work situations have consumed my time lately somewhat.

PS I'm not getting into any discussions as to the park's operations this season, but I am also sad that the normal Scenic team will not be in place this year. Let's hope they can return at some point in the future.
