what going on in dreamland ?????

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

This is all complete guesswork. I have completely no idea how Dreamland or any part of the fairground industry operates....

I assume that Harry Ayers has a leasehold on part of the Dreamland site for 2 years. I imagine from the adverts that appear in Worlds Fair that he then gets ride owners/operators to pitch their rides on the site and charges rent to the operators.

I am guessing that the park is comprised of several independent ride operators. Maybe one or more ride operators were not happy with the conditions or maybe the fact that the park is only open at weekends at the moment. Who knows? Only someone on the inside could tell you and so we will probably never know. Business is business and these matters will be private.

Dreamland Rides

Postby micktee » 30 Jun 2005, 22:42

Following my previous comments.I have held back on the very negative response from member BOB, and I would say via this Forum a thankyou to the very positive comments, on my comments and the way forward as as a councillor on Thanet District Council.
Yes, I look at Dreamland everyday, from the overlooking Car Park in All Saints Avenue, and Eaton Road where the Car Park entrance is, and the old entrance to the park.
Today Thursday I confirm as already reported that several rides have been taken away.. lets wait and see what happens!
There is new fencing being installed at the Car Park Entrance, and boarding on a area of the old chocolate factory, [owned by Mr. Godden] and original Dreamland stables [Sangers] early 1900's has been sealed off. I have to admit that it does look very clean and tidy.
Could this be part of the new agreement etc?
On Thursday next next week I will be attending a conference in Margate on what the people of Thanet want to see..I can assure all members that I will be saying my bit! as a member and as a member of the campaign, I will inform you all of what is said.

:? So Harry has taken away rides for a circus when there is big land near the dogems and why get rides for rides you should keep the rides and put them closer together put them more around the outside so theres not loads of room behind it obvisouly they should bring more but just add them a circus is going to be gd but how many rides could fit there, its just all gettin out of hand next thing you'll know there'll be no toilets whats he trying to do lose more customers than he already has it might look clean or tidy but more should have happened could have waited another year done it up properly check out topic: What a Disappointment and read my post as i think many of you will agree with what i said! :?

I am very sceptical about this. It does not add up.

Bob,

Why can it not simply be as described. The rides that have gone are off to another site, and Harry has some others coming in.

If it wasn't for Harry, the park would be closed right now, give him a chance.

If Mick is giving Harry support, that's good enough for me.

Vince.
