Dreamland

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

big wheel

Postby lutonlad » 30 Mar 2006, 06:29

Good news on the wheel, and what a great location to site it, but what concerns me though is that this is quite away from the park, do they intend to bring rides all the way up to it or will people have to trek from the wheel to get to the rest of the rides on site.

thanks nick

notice its M&D's travelling wheel which usually does kirkcaldy link market and newcastle town moor as well as many other fairs, will be missed this season on the road.

hopefully this means that they are expecting a good turnout this season as that wheel can take a fortune at those two locations alone!

big wheel

Postby dreamland » 30 Mar 2006, 21:51

i hope that the big wheel ride will actually stay in margate every season and be a permanent fixture to margate and stay in margate , the original big wheel was in margate for 17 seasons and would be good for the new wheel to stay , it will be a shame if it was only there for this season only , ill be very dissopointed if it goes , because over the years it seems that rides only last for 1 season only in dreamland apart from the scenic railway of course , ill be filming in dreamland this year for sure and taking pictures !!

there is no chance of that particular wheel staying their for more than until the end of the summer as i would imagine that M&D's will have it present at one of the big back end fairs.

At the end of the day, its a travelling machine, specially built for that purpose, however it will make a great addition to dreamland and margate this summer. I hope they do well with it there, obviously they think they will as i said before- that wheel is a big money spinner for the scottish firm.

while talking about the big wheel i was looking around one of the old thorpe park sits and the eclipse carriages look the same as the ones going on to the margate big wheel, are they the same ones or did the thorpe park ones go with eclipse to chessington maybe they fixed the ride and gave them the carriages to get new ones. i know its not really important just wondering

as explained before- this is a well known travelling giant wheel, nothing to do with thorpe park wheel or carriages, this is M&D's giant wheel built by Fabbri in 2003, same now as it has been since new!

The Thorpe Park Eclipse wheel was built by the same manufacturer, Fabbri. However, Thorpe's was a park model, requiring foundations. Dreamland's is a travelling version.

Hopefully, Dreamland will eventually be restored and some top notch permenant rides will be brought in. Some spaces could be dedicated to temporary spinny-type travelling rides which could be changed out every season just for some variety.
