Inspector's Recommendations to be Rejected?

If Bob was at the meeting he clearly has little or no understanding of local politics. This was clearly a ‘whip’ decision by the ruling party (well ruling at the moment!!!!) and one has to question the confidence of a party that needs to enforce a decision of this type.

He similarly has a difficulty in grasping some very basic facts if he thinks option C concurs with the Inspector’s report, it is somewhat disingenuous to suggest it does.

Even the Council Officer, with his carefully chosen words to try and mitigate what he was suggesting, has not had the audacity to go quite that far.

His libellous accusation that the members of this campaign do not wish to save Dreamland may yet come back to haunt him.

Option C is in line with the Inspectors Report in all except a few very minor areas. I can see no sensible reason as to why anyone would object to Option C which is 95% in line with the Inspectors Report.

Bob - it is the 5% that we want to change...not the 95%. That 5% could be the difference between the park surviving or not!

In guess it could have gone better but by the sound of it could have gone worse too. Bob is trying to suggest that the campaign is now doomed to fail so it's important such ideas are nipped in the bud, then again by now people will have already taken a large pinch of salt before even looking at his posts.

It also seems more important than ever that people object to them knocking down the buildings so let's try and make sure those who havn't objected do as soon as possible. I'll try and put the word round some more forums. Does anyone know when this next consultation will start? Having sent a couple of letters recently I'm in the mood to write the next. We know that what we are saying makes sense so let's show them the true meaning of a 'pressure campaign' .

Think the post council meeting was probably more interesting than the council meeting!! Option C means that the supporters of this campaign, of which there are many, have got to keep fighting, keep convincing as Option C is somewhat of a fudged position.

I am convinced there are some in the Tory Group who probably wanted to vote for option B, equally there are some that probably support option A, but know this could potentially cost them their seat next year, it is such an important issue.

As a Labour Party Member I am proud that the Labour Group voted the right way last night.

Interesting there wasn't a free vote on this?!?

Well it looks like the fight will continue on into the planning meetings, I have just come here from looking at the web site for Adventure Island, this park is open all year, admittedly only week-ends in the winter but thease are the days when you are more likely to still pull in the numbers, also look at there free travel tieins for both bus and rail, get ur wristbands from the bus driver or the station and you get to travel for free, and the park had got captive visitors, things like this show just what sort of Buissines man Mr Miller is, and now that option 3 has been choosen we can only speculate that he will not get the chance to show what he can do in Margate, as it is plainly obvious that the current owners want to prove it cannot pay (and lets face it in there hands it never will), so thay can get whay thay want for the site.
The fight must go on and we must make sure that Mr Godawful and his not so merry men dont get there way, and the campign and Mr Miller gets his then we will see that with the right team behind it Dreamland like the Phonix can rise from the ashes(perhaps not the best choice of phrase), and once again bring the people back to both Dreamland and Margate.

I was very disappointed, but not really at all shocked, by last Thursday's Council meeting voting outcome. The fact that every Labour member voted directly for option B, and spoke very supportively, for Dreamland's continued existance as an amusement park, proves to me which political party appears to have Margate's real future interests in their hearts.

I think most of us can clearly see through the council's (at present Tory led) smokescreen. Politics is all too regularly a dirty business it seems. It was also interesting to hear vigorous applause from the rear public seating area of the meeting room whenever a Labour member got up to speak on the Dreamland issue. By contrast, near stunned silence whenever their opposite political members took the floor, one even pre-apologising for the inevitable lack of enthusiastic response before even starting his speech.

I felt it was also possibly rather contrived that the Tourism part of the Local Plan was brought forward to the very beginning of the meeting. (The only benefit I guess was that we did not have to endure a predictably long evening of items).

As commented earlier, this outcome is hardly the end of this Campaign, sadly just the start of the next chapter.

No wonder there is so much voting apathy in this country. It just shows you what a farce it all is, when councillors are told how to vote and not how they want to vote. Democracy? Perhaps the councillors should look it up in a dictionary.

We have the same scenario here in Birmingham regarding a 'super casino'. Birmingham City FC want to have a brand new 50,000 seater stadium built incorporating the casino. 75% of Birmingham residents support this, but the council want it at the NEC. Guess what Birmingham City Council are doing? The same garbage as TDC.

I fully agree with your political comments there; it certainly is a very sad sorry situation when individual party members cannot enforce their personal opinions or viewpoints. Yes, no wonder why the average member of the public becomes so apathetic with their antics, and democracy in general.

By the way, I meant to say on the last message that I didn't see anything featured on the local TV news last night (didn't catch any daytime output, so maybe it was broadcast earlier in the day only). I wasn't sure if the reporters in the meeting room were only newspaper people. Maybe someone will be able to advise re the media attention on the voting outcome.

Some good news and some bad news.

The good news: There were 452 representations made on the Council's 'Proposed Modifications' to the Local Plan (the Proposed Modifications included the "fudged" Dreamland policy). No less than 442 of those representations were on Policy T11 (Dreamland)! And most of those were objections.

The bad news: We received the Planning Manager's report today, and he is suggesting that members REJECT the results of the consultation exercise and press ahead with the policy UNCHANGED!

That's a real blow...and I thought it was just the members (councillors) at Thanet who didn't understand the issues...now we have senior officers also failing to see the point!

I have forwarded the news of the meeting to the ECC List and RCCGB Message Board for information.
