Opening Day

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

.........................................NEWS FLASH..............................................
The scenic has passed a two day safety inspection test, with flying colours, so obviously some one has worked and worked hard might i add, because it can take upto three months to get it ready for the season so fingers crossed we will all be on it soon :) lets all get together with Coasterforce to ride on the scenic to show our support on June 10th :D

I think you will find sarah was talking "tongue in cheek", if it wasn't for the hard work of Sarah, Nick and a few other dedicated people the Scenic would not have been listed and would no doubt have been razed to the ground by now.

For your's and everyone else's information sarah, there was in excess of 10 million pounds worth of rides in the park last year and unless you know a three legged multi millionaire cat capable of doing better, give the new operater some support and stop talking like you could do better, because I am sure that if you could do better you'd be running it and not running it down to everyone

There could have been 100 million pounds worth of rides in the park last season; the value of the rides has no bearing on whether the park was well run. Look back through the posts from last summer and you'll see the complaints about erratic opening hours, surly staff and an operator turning away TV crews who wanted to publicise the place.

I'm not criticising this year's operation you notice, because I haven't yet seen the park operating or heard any feedback from visitors. I have offered mine and the Campaign's support to the new operator because I want to see the park thriving. Of course I will be there on 10 June to support the CF visit.

And I'm all for talking up Dreamland - I've been doing just that with this Campaign for over three years (as opposed to four days). But no amount of spin can make last year's effort look anything other than rather poor. In my humble opinion.

Well I have to ask the obvious question, Dreamgirlz, who are you? because you are coming over (from nowhere) as someone who knows more than they have said.

We have people on this board who spout on about things, claiming that they are something to do with Dreamland, but unable to back themselves up.

So please be different from someone else we all know, and tell us your connection to Dreamland?

Vince.

I am really not concerned about the postings of one individual or another, what does concern me is another late opening!

Let's hope that next weekend will be great.

I also have to agree, clearly no-one who likes roller coasters likes football!!

Save Dreamland or Save Rooney.....YOU DECIDE!

So far public attendence at the big wheel & Dreamland has been pathetic. For most of the time there have been only a handfull of visitors.

Where are all these people you claim want a fairground ? They are most noticable by their total abscence. Where are all the Save Dreamland Campaigners. I believe you claim to have 14,000 active members. I would have expected to see a fair number of them at Dreamland on opening day. Even just 10% of them would have been close on 1,500 visitors.

Perhaps their enthusiasm is not what it is made out to be. It does rather proove the case that Dreamland is not viable when even the Save Dreamland Campaigners cannot even be bothered to turn up/ A pretty poor show I think.

Welcome back Bob :(

As I am sure many will agree it is going to take more than a big wheel to get people to come to Margate.

Unfortunately last years 'effort' will have put many people off (strange that, don't you think)

Open? Dreamland Open?... Did I blink... and miss it!

You will hardly get people to turn up to an opening when it hasn't even been advertised.

Are the general public meant to get out their crystal balls and look into the mists..... We have lost count of the false starts this year (I hope that history is not about to repeat itself)

I for one, along with my family, we most disappointed when we arrived for what should have been last years final day to find the place closed and rides being dismantled!!

If as you suggest Dreamland has opened then it's about time the people you are supposed to have an understanding with get some advertising going.

... I'm sure Bob would have loved it had 1,500 people turned up to see the gates still locked...

erm..

open?

advertised?

it wasn't open on saturday, or showing any signs of opening when i was there on saturday. i was away yesterday unfortunately.

do you expect people just to turn up each day when they don't know it's open, the signs have been removed and not one advert has been put out there.

go away.
