The Thanet Coast this Easter

unbeliveable we visited whitstable and herne bay couldnt find a parking spot Margate was just as busy....its a shame that dreamland was not open even with travelling machines
it proves that the great British seaside is still popular contrary to bobs belief...and that had dreamland been open in some shape or form many people would have been happy and money would have been made
for those who may be interested many of the travelling rides that were in Dreamland last season have made Scarborough a home for this summer
Good luck to the Showmen who are travelling so far from the south east this season
and lets hope that Margate people do something about the shambles that Thanet council have left them with in the May elections.
a few decades ago Margate playing second fiddle to Herne Bay and Whitstable would have been unheard of ....but the difference is those places are clean and the seafront buildings are not boarded up covered in graffiti
last season has gone and the new season is here and yet again Margate chose to do nothing in the winter to clean up its act

If you could not find a parking space in Margate then you could not have been looking very hard. Yes Margate was reasonably busy but it was a fine weather and a bank holiday, even then the visitor numbers were not high. Like it or not people no longer take their main holidays in the UK. It is not just Kent & Margate that are suffering this terminal decline it is going on across the UK. Many are reinventing themselves and moving away from their dependency on the holiday market. That does not mean they are ignoring but that they are accepting it is now a very much smaller market.

I was in Scarbourough a couple of days ago, and the showman seem to have chosen a strong destination. If anyone's in the area I would definately recommend Bram Stoker's Terror Tower (Scarborough) and sister attraction the Dracula Experience (Whitby). The Terror Tower features scenes from horror films and is a great walk through. Highlights include the Psycho opening, Dracula scene reminiscient of Drayton manor's Haunting and a Jurasic Park section. The attraction cost £1.2 million to put together, but puts to shame dark rides at a ,ot of full theme parks.

Interestingly the owner of the water park and amusement park claim they don't make money, but when I was there the sea front had two temporary fun fairs (one was called Lunar park and may well have been semi-permanent), plus a video arcade had a dogems. It seems odd that these smaller more temporary attractions can turn a profit when a permanent park claims it can't.

We had over 20,000 motorbikes in Southend today for the annual Southend Shakedown from the Ace Cafe in London to the sea front amazing sight no trubble at all everyone was laughing and joking the bikers were more than happy to chat about thier bike.
