Just a reminder for Margatians that in a few weeks time you get to put some questions to wannabe councilors and indeed to those who wish to remain in office and even better you get to vote for them
Please Vote for the ones who dont want to lick the backsides of Waterbridge

I wholeheartedly agree as I raised the issue at the recent consultation meeting at the Winter Gardens.

For Thanet Residents you can directly influence the political stucture which would make a real difference to this campaign.

I also agree with the potential for a Save Dreamland Candidate in certain key areas?

Sadly I will not be able to stand, in any capacity, in the upcoming elections (mainly as I'm an out-of-towner!) - just kidding of course.

I strongly agree with the aforementioned sentiments though on this topic. Hopefully some degree of accountability could be forged with regards to any such candidate's intentions relating to Dreamland's future. I just wish I could also vote here.

joking aside if the campaign cant host a candidate this time at least the Margate residents can ask some pretty probing questions to those wishing to be voted on the council

I believe the deadline for nominations re the forthcoming elections has passed a couple of weeks ago. Details of the candidates may well be on the Thanet website?

I hope the residents of Margate who have supported the Dreamland Campaign will vote for those that were sympathetic to our cause throughout the Planning Inquiry fiasco.

I don't think there will be many if any ideal candidates, but it seems that conservative ones are those we particularly need to avoid. The problem with Labour is that they're just as willing as the Conservatives to do what the leaders want in the hopes of promotions etc. We need councillors who will do what they believe to be right. I think there's an independant or two who could be better. Lib Dems might be mildly better. Are there usually any Greens? The problem with voting for the Greens is that they aren't that likely to win, so maybe from a tactical perspective Labour.

I agree that the result of these elections will be very important, even though there aren't many candiates I have much confidence in.

At the meeting regarding Dreamland some months ago, I believe Labour Councillors voted unanimously for Dreamland to be retained as a amusement park, however the Conservatives voted for other uses if it was proven an amusement park was not viable.

I have two points here, firstly, if labour are serious about keeping Dreamland and knowing what the public feeling seems to be, you would think they would be screaming from the roof tops at their plans to save the site - surely an election winner. It concerns me however, that they don't seem to be doing this, proving that it is all silly playground tit for tat nonsense at these supposedly serious meetings.

Secondly when is the viability test going to take place? If this was agreed are Waterbridge breaking rules by putting plans in place without complying to the agreement? I am not an expert on planning issues perhaps Nick can answer this.

No, Waterbridge aren't breaking any rules. At this stage, they are only consulting on the future of Dreamland. They will only need to demonstrate that an amusement park is not viable when they submit a planning application, and only then if they decide that an amusement park should not form part of their proposals. At this stage, I am keeping an open mind about Waterbridge's plans. Once I see them, I will decide whether I feel that I can support them or not, as I am sure we all will. We will know soon...
