Replica ride for Dreamland?

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

:D

Cheers Paul - Yes my enthusiasm got the better of me there.

The last time I rode a Dive Bomber was 30 years back..Imposing, frightening, and exhilarating..

(And that was just the girl I was with)

Any chance of a coconut shy in there somewhere..?

http://www.italintl.com/used-rides.php is a website for used rides (a lot of us/european) on it is a spider(similar to the monster that was at blackpool) and a rotor(sticky wall) worth having a look at to see how many classic rides are still around

When the new park opens then the Scenic needs a big brother.
If blue prints exist then a copy of what many reguard as Britains finest ever coaster would prove you dont need tons of steel and 400ft drops for thrills- The Belle Vue Bobs!

I cant resist responding to this being old enough and local enough to have regularly ridden the Bobs in my youth. The trouble with youth is that you don't always appreciate the importance of what you are experiencing.

I fear this is a little ambitious, in both size and cost, for a project but it brought back memories of the regular Saturday nights at Belle Vue. For those that dont know Belle Vue it was a complete entertainment complex, amusement park, zoo, dance halls, bars, speedway stadium, which also had stock car racing, the Kings Hall built in the round with a long circus run at Christmas, wrestling, concerts and numerous other events.
Fireworks on Saturday night which could be heard for miles around

Plus the only surviving bit the greyhound stadium which now also houses the speedway ..... the rest .... a housing estate & multiplex cinema.

The Bobs coasters are world famous, and I've heard tell of the Belle Vue Bobs many times. We have a similar Church designed one near here. No flat track, all banked and twisted.

Original Looping star

Postby noblelittle » 29 Jul 2007, 14:24

I have fond memories of the original looping star, not the one that was created in 2001 but the old white and blue one in the corner of the park, the one where gravity held you in with aid of a lap bar. I know there is one in loudon castle scotland but this is not the original one.

or maybe the original mary rose.

I like the idea of the old virginia reel, is this the one that was built at blackpool in the 1920s? :D

I would love to see a Virginia Reel at Dreamland!!

If that's too much of a project, then either the modified chair-o-plane version of the Schwartzkopf Apollo 14, a Zepellin or a Looping Star.

We've all mentioned our favourite thrill rides but let's not forget that- as Bob so rightly states- New Dreamland has to be family-orientated so I am going to vote for.......

A Peter Pan Railway.

I believe the company which made them (and many dodgem rides)- Supercar of Leamington Spa- is still in business.

Sadly, when Lowther Park closed in 2002 one was flogged off cheaply..
It would have been nice to have relocated it to Dreamland.

My choice of 'replica' ride would be:

1. Virginia Reel
2. Chance Skydiver
3. Sky Wheels

I have never ridden a Virginia Reel but it looks good based on the footage I have seen. If that proves too expensive then I would like to see a Chance Skydiver ride. I rode Britains only existing one at a festival back in the nineties. Last I heard it was at Seaburn Park in Sunderland. Don't know if it is still there. Failing that, it would be nice to see the Sky Wheels back although it would not make sense to have too many 'Ferris Wheels' at the park.

Not really classed as historic yet, but increasingly rare these days would be a Schwarzkopf coaster, either the original 'Looping Star' model or the old 'Thunderlooper' model (like they had at Alton Towers) would be nice.

A well-maintained retro-arcade would be good aswell. I would like to see a collection of vintage pinball tables as you rarely find any pinball machines at all in modern arcades.

Totally agree!

Maybe could be one of the 'leisure uses' that the planning brief envisages for the 'enabling development'...

Ooo yes please I love a Schwarzkopf! They are starting to disappear of parks up and down the country which is a real shame. A Looping Star would be fantastic but I'll take anything that has come from Anton!

greetings everyone:
having had a fond appreciation for "what once was" in regard to amusment rides, i couldn't believe what i was reading when it came to the "heritage park" project. in the last few years, the "cancer" that has plaque our amusement industy here has finally found its way to your side of the pond. i envy all you ride enthusiats who had at least the privilege of patronizing these "classics" while they were still around. i wish all involved here in trying to resurrect this park nothing but the best in trying to save a part of your amusement hertiage. enclosed is my list of rides for consideration taking, some may recognize them for what they are or under similar names:

tumble bug (turtle chase)
heyday
ride-e-o

I've ridden a Tumble Bug. They're a riot.

There are a few surviving that are operational, and there is one surviving in Ohio (USA) in an abandoned park. I'd love to see it removed and restored.
