I don't have a problem with that Jim, as I'm a supporter of the campaign as a whole. I've been keenly interested for over 12 months now, and my interest wont drop, I'm in it for the long haul
However, if we're asking people specifically for cash to save a coaster, then that's different to people supporting the campaign. Ian is a good example. The campaign for him is just something happening which will take years. He'll go to Dreamland if it's open and support with his custom. He'll be interested in new developments too, and will be excited by the idea of a new park. However, he doesn't want to be at the coal face. It's all something which will happen with or without him.
However, as a coaster enthusiast, to be asked directly to contribute towards saving a actual roller coaster, he's directly interested. It's not some vague plan in the middle of a political quagmire, but an opportunity to, this minute, make a difference.
Once the chute is secured, then it falls of his radar again, until it opens and he can go on the ride he put forward some money to directly save.
We could pour our life savings for the rest of our lives into Dreamland and heritage park, and it would still need more. That's the nature of the beast, and a tenner now wont change that down the line. It could however make the difference to the chute, but if it doesn't, then Ian doesn't just want his money vanishing into the black hole which is a park in the making.
I hope that makes some sense. To those of us already time, effort and enthusiasm committed, it's fine to put in the money to the campaign as a whole, it's money where our mouths are time. For people who are essentially strangers to the campaign, they want a few more assurances?
