Appeal for funds

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

Sarah, I think we all certainly trust you more than we do the total strangers we buy stuff from on eBay!
Can't wait to see you on the islands.

Are we allowed to know how much money we raised for this appeal?

Hi Vince

We are still awaiting one or two cheques that were promised before posting anything. Also we are awaiting the bills, hopefully we shall be able to give an update next week.

We are still a way off the amount needed though and would be grateful for any other contributions.

Tell me when you know, at one point Nicky suggested we pay the whole amount, but that might be a holiday not booked!

Is that enough putting your money where your mouth is? A few of the Bobs have suggested we should, but we don't see him/them contributing do we!

Funny you should post this item suddenly Vince - I was just wondering the same thing earlier yesterday but have been too exhausted to post much lately. It seems a shame, if I'm reading between the lines correctly, that not enough people have yet chosen to "put their money where their mouth is" and donated something to this appeal.

As I think I said before, it also somewhat saddens me to hear that some coaster enthusiasts appear to be not too forthcoming in this particular department too. Even with the additional prospect of having their names put up on a plaque, or similar, within the rebuilt ride structure. I know things are tight this time of the year, but as our American friend Jim has pointed out before there are ways and means to raise some capital if the heart is willing. I also feel that anyone wishing to have cast iron assurances as to the direct usage of their donations, should this scheme come to eventual fruition or otherwise are somewhat causing distraction to the main plight here.

Surely if one is really interested in seeing a classic ride preserved for future generations to enjoy the aforementioned items should pale into significance.

Well, how about we try a 'stuff a tenner in an envelope' appeal?

Price of a round of drinks. I appreciate not everyone can donate large sums, only wish I could, but surely every fiver and tenner helps?

I already have - but maybe it's time for a second round, asking for more?

Every little counts, and several small amounts will all add up.
