Appeal for funds

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

I think if we ask everyone to chip in a fiver or a tenner even... I hope people don't think it has to be a lot, every amount will help! (says she looking at her piggy bank collection of copper...)

its just a pity some of the other coaster sites arent heightening the cause, even a lot of small donations could help get the total

It's a shame it's so close to Christmas, but I'm sure everyone is capable of donating a fiver, as EAS suggested.

An updated figure collected thus far would be nice too!

So come on guys/girls, whilst we can't always physically help the campaign, we can help it financially (and show our appreciation for all the hard work put in by the big players).

Hello all,

I've just responded to a European Coaster Club friend of mine's request to their e-mail message list in relation to an appeal for funds for this item. (He suggested that if every club member could send in £5 or more then there would be a good chance of us reaching the current required target).

In my response I suggested them sending cheques, preferably, to Sarah's address (hope that was ok!) as I thought that was the preferred option over PayPal. I also suggested, as our US friend Jim remarked, that selling any unwanted items on Ebay etc could also help people at this expensive time of the year. Hopefully more donations will now be forthcoming!

As I am only a member of the above Coaster club, I decided to take a look at the other UK club, The Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain's (RCCGB) website to see if they had raised any associated appeals reference this cause. However, unless I am mistaken, I could not see any such messages. Maybe I could be bold enough to make one, if I am allowed, being a non-member. Otherwise if any RCCGB member can offer to do just that I would greatly appreciate it. I believe the further we spread the word the better. (I might even alert some US enthusiast on-line groups I know).

Would it be appropriate to ask if we can be given an indication as to the current status of this appeal fund by the way?

I might also be able to send another donation in again soon too.

Martin

David - thanks for the feedback reference the RCCGB items on this topic.

I seem to have somewhat opened up the proverbial "can of worms" on posting my last message to the European Coaster Club's e-mail list. (Trust me to open my big mouth) - I did put a disclaimer in though saying that I hope my comments reference the apparent lack of feedback from my earlier £49k appeal didn't cause offence.

I must concede that seeking to raise the original funding would have been rather insurmountable within the very tight timescale, however I suppose I just got a little carried away with enthusiasm. Ironically my latest message to their list seems to have started to achieve some results and people are starting to send in donations.

I was only trying to assist our endeavours as I feel that with higher people volumes greater monetary amounts will result.

Martin

PS Many thanks to all who have, or are about to, contribute.

For what it's worth - I do think that maybe we have got the key elements of the chute at rather a bargain price! The original sum seemed vast, and I do wonder how much of the structure would have been re-usable in the end.

I reckon at the moment every little will help! I am sure no matter how small the sum it will all be welcome to tide the campaign over until the site changes hands and there is some certainty. If we had simply allowed the chute to all go to the scrapyard we would have been very sorry indeed. It's going to be a wonderful ride I think, a key element in the park.

The campaign needs general funds behind it too. No fundraising is every wasted.

Hello

Well, so far we've raised £1000.50, which is fantastic; huge thanks to all of you who have contributed.

We're still awaiting a couple of bills, so don't yet know exactly how much this endeavour is going to cost us. However, we're expecting it to be a bit less than the £2000 originally quoted thanks to the kindness of our contractors.

As long as I have an email address to write to, I am acknowledging all donations as they arrive. If you have sent a cheque and haven't heard from me, it's because it's not here yet.

If anyone else would like to donate, but can't remember where the cheque book is, email me at sarah@savedreamland.co.uk and I'll send you Paypal details. I'm covering all Paypal fees as part of my donation, so everything you give this way goes straight to the fund.

Thanks again everyone.

Hello all,

That's great news on the appeal front. It just goes to show what can actually be achieved in quite a short timescale, and I'm sure the money's still rolling in.

Martin

PS I thought it was quite a spooky total so far really; halfway house or what?

Here's to a happy solution.

Wherever it may be.

Unfortuantely those links to Crazy Gangs will no longer work. The forum is in the process of being closed down.

I totally understand that time and effort is hard, but i do feel that if the amount reached to date was updated more regular people who could afford it etc could donate more and people who havent yet pledged anything may have not because they feel the amount has been reached.Although the amount reached is terrific i find it quite unbelievable that with the amount of members etc the amount of £2000.00 could be reached quite easily.
