Yet again I find myself responding to Bob, despite my best intentions to ignore him.
In response to his points, repeated on another thread, I find most offensive his remarks in respect of immigrants and asylum seekers and they should have no place on this forum. Just because someone originates from another country does not mean they will not become valuable, hardworking, members of the community of Margate, giving the town the vibrancy that comes with a multi-cultural community. We also have to remember the, usually English, landlords who are making a very good living from providing accommodation and the businesses that benefit from their custom..
He also refers to retirees in a similar disparaging way but we need to put this in context, I too have mentioned this at meetings but very much about the planning arrangements, loss of hotels and maybe a drain on statutory services; with regard to the business community it is recognised that the grey pound is now where a lot of money is and they are very likely to shop nearer home and use other local facilities. They also have children and grandchildren who will want to visit them at their seaside home and be entertained in town. The hotel situation is beginning to improve in Thanet and we hear of the new one on the Prospect site convenient to all the Thanet towns.
As usual he goes on about the state of Margate, yes there is a problem with the High Street, brought on because of the Westwood development and common across the island. I too find it sad to see the boarded up shops and no it doesn't look pleasant but that is not the same thing as being dirty. Just sitting back and moaning will not help anyone and there is a will to look forward and we now find that all the stakeholders, ourselves included, are working hard to develop a better future and I probably speak for all campaign members when I suggest that Dreamland can be at the hub of this, sadly it will take a little time.
Finally Bob how many times do we have to tell you, the world's first Heritage Amusement Park and all that goes with it is NOT a little fairground. Like others on the site I have defended your right to an opinion but at least take the trouble to be accurate in your description of the thing you are criticising.
