I think the whole point is that Margate should be different, we need to earn the tourist £ again. Thanet District Council have lost sight of that, and seem to be pinning their hopes on the Turner Centre in an attempt to gain a "better class of visitor". Whereas, as everybody knows, nobody is interested in the Turner Centre.
Planning Fail.
I too love British tree species and we have many parks in Margate where they can be seen, Dane Park for example, my local park.
There are hopes that this Victorian fountain can be preserved in the future.
People have always visited Margate to see something different to their everyday lives and so while I support the restoration of things which have always drawn people to Margate, I see no problem in mixing that with contemporary ideas.
Certainly, in the photos I posted above, Southend-on-Sea and Great Yarmouth look like they are doing distinctly better than Margate right now.
