Being a listed building does not mean that the Scenic Railway can never be removed, but there has to be very good reason to remove it. One of hurdles is to offer the site at the market value of its current use, which we are fairly certain would result in an amusement park operator acquiring the site. We certainly know people would buy and operate the ride.
Representatives of the campaign have met the council on many occasions. If you go to the news page then read back through the last year or so of the campaign, you will see that we have met with the council many times. We have actually met with them on other occasions privately with theme park operators.
We have also already made a number of "properly planned" submissions to the council (all of which can be downloaded from the site: go to the front page of
www.savedreamland.co.uk). We have even appeared formally at the public inquiry. All our formal representations have been supported by members' own excellent submissions, which have made all the difference in raising the profile of the issue. The profile of the Campaign is now raised and Dreamland is regularly referred to in council documents in ways that we are increasingly happy with. But we need to keep plugging away to make sure that decision makers don't forget that we are here and that we are not going away. We will therefore continue to make representations to the council at the appropriate time. If you register to join the mailing list (email
nick@joylandbooks.com), we will notify you when there is an opportunity to get involved.
