Dear Bob,

Fabulous stuff as always.

A while ago, you were saying we were all in agreement with you and you were ready to misquote us in your publicity material, whatever that was. How times change.

You want investment. Phillip Miller wants to invest. Sell him the site Bob. You won't have to worry yourself about it then. If you don't want your job any more sit back and watch how it's done.

'Hot air' emmanates mostly from you. The same refusal to answer basic questions; the same boring old irrelevances and misquotes. If you are equating 'hot air' with freedom of speech, and if you are seriously saying that people are only entitled to hold views on their own local issues then you are even dafter in real life than you appear in print and clearly have no understanding of democracy. Anyway, local people have made it abundantly what they want and it's not the 'cock and bull' 'mealy mouthed' drivel that comes from you. They want a committment to a complete revitilisation of the whole Dreamland site as an amusement park. That is real committment Bob. That I will subscribe to. Not your half hearted attempt to prove an amusement park won't work in order to build houses.

And as for 'out of towners' Bob that's where your money should be coming from, that is if you hadn't spent the last few years putting them off. To say that they shouldn't have the right to express an opinion is quite frankly idiotic and childish in the extreme. 'Will somebody please put Bob's toys back in his pram.'

Sell it to Miller. You know it makes sense.

Thanks as always,
Taffy.

Bob wrote:I think more and more people are comming to realize that the "Save Dreamland Campaigners" are a bunch of moaning out of towners none of which have or are willing to make any financial commitment to Margate. They like to generate lots of hot air but when asked to put there money where there mouth is go very quiet but are quite happy to say other people should invest in what they want , which is not what the majority of people in Margate want in any case. Fortunatly TDC is more sensible.

Bob - I assume you got your refund from the Tact and Diplomacy School.

How on earth can you feel justified in upsetting so many dedicated people at once by your somewhat empty but, nonetheless, hurtful criticisms of people on the campaign?

As others have said, we represent a wide range of people and organisations, many local, others like myself, tourists (i.e. potential trade for Margate businesses). Many people have put in a lot of time, money and effort in trying to guarantee the park's future as an amusement park...something that the vast majority of Margate people want (if you care to read the well-published feedback).

Remember the "out of towners" are the lifeblood of a tourist resort...that is what toursists are! These are not the people you should be offending...without Tourists Margate will die on its feet...as Morecambe did when Frontierland closed.

(and please use correct spelling and grammar - we all make the occasional typing error, but poor grammar and spelling in every post you make does nothing to aid your poor impression you are making...e.g. put THEIR money where THEIR mouth is).

All you do is moan about what you want.

No, we moan about what we do want and as Taffy said we live in a democracy where there is freedom if speech, like it or not.

No wonder no one takes you seriously.

I see, that's why you develelopment company was refused planning permission to demolish the historically important buildings. And I suppose the Public Inspector didn't take us seriously. That's why all the Labour Councillors voted against the developers. That's why we have convinced experience operators to make offers and want to develop the site as an attraction the town can be proud of. That's why the BBC website has reported articles following the Campaign. That's why the Campaign continues to swell in numbers. That's why we the Campaign gets space in serious magazienes like First Drop and Airtime. I would call you a propagandist. Toby Hunter may just about be worthy of this title, but you certainly are not.

You keep talking about what Margate can be proud of, but how can they be proud when you have admitted that removing Dreamland would be going against the wishes of what all the 'out of towners' want?

What ever your motive for posting is you will just make us campaign all the harder.

Phillip Miller had several years to come up with an offer for Dreamland. He was unable to do so and is no longer in the running. It would be very imprudent to consider developing or investing in a loss-making business ultimately this would lead to financial failure with consequences for the town. The positive consequences, however, of investing in a profitable business such as the proposed Dreamland Leisure Park are very good news for Margate and the surrounding area and will offer substantial year round employment opportunities. Already several companies are expressing interest in this venture.

A direct quote from Mr Hunter, which we have already read on the News Page. And I assume you copied and pasted it as it's devoid of your usual comedy spelling.

Do you ever have original thoughts? Are any of your opinions your own?

When you have 14,000 members in a campaign, obviously there are going to be some differentials in levels of support - you can't expect someone in Inverness to leave their family and profession to come down to operate the Hook A Duck for the Summer Season but they still have every right to voice their opinion. If you want to translate that into moaning then I must have missed the fact that this is classed as a "campaign".

Let me give you my definition of "loser" pal; it's someone who plays the Physically Disadvantaged Card in order to gain a modicum of public support and a certain level of backing from Thanet Council - it's a very clever strategy of pushing neutrals into a corner where they have very little room to feasibly object - I'm sure there will be a nice fat profit in there as well - I wouldn't expect anything less from the dirtiest player in the game. You regard us as people who have Model Railways in our Attics and get excited over a cup of Horlicks but you underestimate the intelligence, passion and rationality of the people involved.

I was just like you in many ways (gasp from the crowd); I always thought it was pointless getting involved in these kind of things where you are almost always battling a foregone conclusion but my friend Vince opened my eyes to the fact that you can never get back the regret of not at least trying.

I think you owe Sarah an apology; she has put their heart and soul into what she believes in with little reward apart from the possibility of protecting a key part of this area for the enjoyment of people for generations to come. She has inspired me and people I know to play a more active role in this campaign - can you honestly say Bob that you have ever inspired anyone to do anything? (apart from using a spell-check).

When Sarah is sharing Humbugs with her Grandchildren and enthralling them with stories about how she had the Brass Balls to take on Mindless Developers back in the noughties, I can see you in your Incontinence Pants at the Sunshine Rest Home, wondering why Quentin and Tabatha keep writing to you about your Will but never seem to have the time to visit…………...

After reading taffy's last post I wanted to comment on the extra letter he added to Toby's surname, I think if you look closely it was a ' H '

ok bob who will come to margate in the summer to come and use this lesiure centre

answer is nobody

most tourists that visit would use the beach and swim in the sea
and also use the amusement park for ALL the family
not spend money on a crappy site that 95% of margate residents DONT want

maybe you wanna open your eyes and see the truth

i personally DONT believe you have anything to do with dreamland and i dont believe you live in margate
every post you write doesnt make any sense, and when people ask you questions, you cant answer them
if you go through every thread people have asked you lots of questions which you cant answer

for example
in a another thread bob said "there would be a gym built where the former arcade was

FACT
there is a road to be built there that will go straight into dreamland completed this summer(read gazette report for comfirmation)

so there you go "bob",1 example where your facts are wrong (surprise surprise)

maybe people should start a thread with questions for "bob" to answer, and lets see if he can answer any of them, because personally i dont think he would as he knows very very little about anything

I suspect that you like many of the Save Dreamland Campaigners are living in a time warp of the 1960"s. People no longer come to visit the seaside in any significant numbers. Just look at how few people you will see sitting on the beach even on a sunny day in August. Look at how many hotels have and are clossing down each year. Look at how many businesses catering for holidaymakers are closing down. People no longer come to seaside resorts nor have they any interest in seaside Amusement Parks what is affecting Margate is affecting resorts all over the UK. Even the largest resort left Blackpool stuggles to survive and is slowing shrinking and becoming more run down. The simple fact is people prefer to go abroad. Even for a long weekend it is cheaper to go abroad and the hotels, facilities and weather are far better.

Dreamland cannot go back to the 1960's. and it certainly will not be doing so. No matter how much you campaign the whol of the Dreamland site will not be an Amusement Park. It is simply not viable at all. TDC recognise that it is not viable. THey do not wish Dreamland to become a burdon on the TDC council tax payers. There is a strategy for the site being developed with all the key players and stakeholders. When it is submitted for planning permision the general public an the save dreamland campaign will be able to inspect the plans. If you are expecting the majority of the site to be an Amusement Park then you will be disappointed. An amusement Park will though still be a key element of the redevelopment.

It is a myth that it was thriving. Dreamland has been struggling to stay in the Black since the mid 1970's. Costs over that period have risen substantially whilst visitor numbers have declined substantially. The impact of this as well is that opening hours are reduced adding further to the costs. In the 1960's in the high season Dreamland would have opened from 10AM to 10PM 7 days a week.

I am afraid you cannot change the simple economics of things. The days of mass holidmakers & visitors to Margate have long gone. We are down to a small niche Margate consisting of mainly elderly visitors and married couples with very young children plus a few such as the Save Dreamland Campaigners. It is knowhere near enough to make Dreamland viable most of which would not in any case have much interest in going to an Amusement Park.

Dreamland needs to adapt to the needs of today. If you take Clacton it has reduced the size of its facilities. It has also targeted them at a much younger age group with much of the facilities targeted at the 3 to 11 age range. This is the market Dreamland needs to address. Clacto has also developed good leisure facilities these being targeted at the older age group. It has also developed its retail facilities. THis mixture has proved a winning combination for Clacton.

What I have always said, Bob is happy to start taking the moral high ground and wittering about disabled Jehova's Witnesses, but he is full of hypocrisy. The reason going abroad is so cheap is becasue of the tax reliefs (and according to Watch Dog bribes) these budget air lines are getting. As a member of the Campaign I can see the devastating impact is having on the environment and can see how unsustainable the developers plans are. Only when the last lake is polluted and we are living on oxygen machienes will Bob be forced to take back his line 'the environement doesn't matter'. This is why it is important for ome 'out of towners' with the bigger picture to get involved and have their say. Money will ot buy back the ice caps.

You argument with regard to the environment is very flawed. A modern plane has far less impact on the environment then several hundred car journeys

What I cannot understand is where the people will come from to spend the money at the'Leisure Park'. Margate is hardly an affluent area and so how often are local people (as all you are going to attract are local people) going to put they hands into their pockets for the same facilities? I mean I would not travel over 100 miles to visit a 'Leisure Park' when I have at least 5 'carbon copies' within a 15 mile drive of my home offering the usual drivel.

The trouble is that this country is BORING I'm fed up with what developers have done. You drive around and you see the same shoe box houses on the same estates with the same High Streets with the same shops and everyone driving the same cars. Margate has something different to offer but again the developers want to turn it into another same old, same old!

As for not getting the visitors, why would you want to visit somewhere that is unattractive and run down. Ever since the 'Devil Personified' took over at Dreamland he has run the Park and town into the ground.
