Thanks to Sarah, Dave and Vince

The Save Dreamland Campaign was launched by Joyland Books in January 2003 and is now supported by several thousand people. This is the place to discuss all aspects of saving Margate's famous amusement park and its iconic , Grade II listed Scenic Railway, Britain's oldest roller coaster.

I thought I would start the thanks to our defrosting campainers who have been on the streets (won't ask how much they earned).

The results at 100:1 show that the people of Margate (that wanted to express an opinion) back up the campaign's stance on the park. And I can tell any doubters that if any of the public were against our stance, they would have let them know.

So there you go, take out the meddling out of towners and the result is the same. People want Dreamland to stay Dreamland.

The non-hairy Vince is right, this does show Mr Hunter that if you talk to random locals (as opposed to vocal out-of-towners), there is an even stronger feeling that the Council is getting it completely wrong when it comes to Dreamland. I make that 99% in favour of the Council taking the tough line recommended by the Inspector.

A very big thanks to Sarah, Dave and Vince from me.

This must be the most over-Vinced forum on the whole of the internet, but can I just join Vince in thanking Vince?

Dreamland is no longer viable. This is beyond any reasonable doubt. We have demonstrated this to TDC and they have accepted the evidence. Any redevelopment of Dreamland has to be on a commercial basis and this is the approach currently being taken. Whilst the exact amount of the site given over to an amusement park is not yet finalised it will be no more then 60% but at this stage could be as low as 30% it alll depends on the final business plan figures.

Bob talking about facts and figures, how about reading the 100:1 ratio of todays stance. You didn't quite say anything about the topic of this post but just once again say it isn't viable.

Well, evidence was presented to the Inspector at the Inquiry by the then owner of Dreamland, supposedly proving that it is not viable. The Inspector did not accept that evidence and neither do we.

It is very odd that Philip Miller has also done his sums and believes that the entire park is viable. As he operates an amusement park and Waterbridge does not, I would prefer to take Philip's word. Sorry.

Let's make this simple for Bob...

If you are so sure that Dreamland isn't viable, then sell it.

Funny thing is your trying to sell it as a development plot when it's an Amusement park plot.

Is that simple enough?

Aha, my fingers have thawed out enough that I can type! Brrr, that was chilly - but really rewarding. If anyone is ever in any doubt about the validity of this Campaign I can thoroughly recommend donning a Save Dreamland bib and taking to Margate High Street. It's an exercise guaranteed to re-ignite the fire in your belly.

Judging from Saturday, the people of Margate are pretty cross. I heard many complaints about a local council that isn't listening to its residents. I heard many worries about the future of our town without Dreamland. And I received so much encouragement that nothing will stop me getting out there again next Saturday (certainly not the forecasted snow!).

We should all draw some strength from this level of support. The vocal minority is made up of Bob and his mates, certainly not us.

Sarah

PS Thanks Vince. (The meaning of the name Vince is, apparently, conquering or victorious. How can we lose with such a plethora of them on our side?)

Well - Margate High Street on a sub zero Saturday Morning.....I wouldn't have imagined it would have been so much FUN!!

As Sarah said the very first person I approached actually wanted the Theme Park Closed

1 - 0 to "Bob"....but remember this is a marathon not a sprint!

Then the next 100 people fully supported the Save Dreamland Campaign.

There were many comments (most including expletives) about
Thanet District Council's decision and Mr J.Godden in general.

If I was standing for re-election in 2007 I would think long and hard about my position on this issue. 100 in favour of retaining Dreamland to 1 against is the current sample view in Margate. Many people I spoke to said they were disappointed that there is no election this May to voice their views.

We are the Majority, we are morally doing the right thing.

Big respect to Sarah and Dave C as it was very cold. Also Big Respect to the 3 Cooks and Cartons (I think that is it's name)

DON'T FORGET, IF YOU HAVEN'T OBJECTED YET....GET IT DONE BY THE END OF THE MONTH!

Hi All

I think we would all agree that in the hands of the current owners Dreamland is not viable (because thay dont want it to be), if thay had to sell the land as an amusement park thay are not going to get the sums of money thay want, its therefore in there intrests to make it look like its not viable.
However as stated by Nick evedence to the contrey has been give from other partys who are not going to invest money of the amounts needesd to bring Dreamland up to scratch.

Bob can say its not viable until he is blue in the face but i would tend to go with Phillip Miller than Bob and his croneys any day, it is paliny obvious that thay want to make as much money from the site as possible and thay cannot do that if its an Amusement Park.

Forgot, on the Vince thing, I went years without knowing another Vince. I used to go to a pub in Gillingham where there were another two (Non-Hairy Vince and Vinnie)

But in the world of the www, I have never known another forum with 3 Vince's. Truly a historic website!!!
