Yeah, saw Robb's pictures when he posted them a month or two back. It's pretty demoralising.

The thing is, at least the Scenic has some protection, even though it still needs to be fought for.

The thing is, is this what is needed at Margate?

There's also talk of bringing in a travelling fair to Southport, much like at Margate last year (though without the support of a large woody, I don't know what success it will have in bringing people in).

I wonder if it's just still sitting there. What a waste if it was knocked down, it's still there in a pile, and nothing's been done with the site.

Someone would have bought and removed it. Even if they'd given it away and the new owner paid for it's relocatin, it would have saved Blackpool money.
It sickens me.

The pile of firewood is still there. It still turns my stomach every time I think of the waste of it all.

Sefton council now have the site though, and they can build a faceless bowling alley or something onto it. :(

I understand that there are problems disposing of wood - you can't simply put it in landfill, a bonfire would be difficult both environmentally and dangerous... I suspect that n-one considered this in the rush to demolish, which was I am convinced driven by the desire to get rid of it before it was listed. Any disposal is going to have certain PR problems...

I suspect PBB Ltd had seen the 'problem's caused by the Save Dreamland campaign to greedy site owners without any regard for heritage...

Question is...

Now that Sefton own the lease, do they own anything on the site, or is that all still PBB Ltd's responsibility?

I'd assume that the buildings and rides are still actually owned by PBB.

If so, who is responsible for all the Cyclone wood? It's no longer a structure, just a load of broken dreams. Are Sefton supposed to dispose of it (well done PBB, you made £7.5 million out of the lease, and now it's somebody elses problem), or is it still the responsibility of PBB?

No idea - but when PBB Ltd took over the site they took over existing buildings and infrastructure, possibly in getting back the lease everything on site returns to Sefton. That includes the wood. Sad that it was all just trashed with little hope or rebuilding Cyclone - all quite deliberate I'm sure.

There's an asbestos removal problem there too as I recall.

I'm pretty sure that Sefton have no interest in rebuilding it anyway.

If the buildings and infrastructure are now Seftons... How does this work with Blackpool's plan to move the Dinosaurs from Southport? I imagine that everyone got a pretty sweet deal to be honest though...

Bring on the crinkly tin... I love a classic crinkly tin resort! So classy!

I suspect the dinos are not fixtures as they can be moved, and as they were bought by PBB they belong to PBB.

well this can only be good news that the council have bought the lease.this shows the council want to save pleasureland and i personally think they will get a travelling fair to operate on the site plus the remaining rides (king solomons mnes, big wheel, log flume etc) while they look for a long term buyer for the park.sefton council have always maintained they want pleasureland to be kept a theme park.its a shame the cyclone wasnt saved in time.still im quite happy that after all the bad news with amusement parks closing, there is some good news for a change

what a shame that margate's council didnt buy dreamland and do the same thing for dreamland!!

Um, ugm2000, if that was the case, then why did they allow the destruction of a perfectly well maintained classic rollercoaster?

You can kiss Pleasureland good-bye. The writing is on the wall.

hi jim

i cant answer why the cyclone was demolished, cause im not in a position to answer that, what i was getting at was it was a shame the council didnt purchase the lease sooner and stop the historical ride being flattened

the council in southport want to lease the grounds for the summer season to a travelling fair with the remaining rides still there, ie king solomons mines (1950s wild mouse) plus river caves.there is also a big wheel log flume and other bits and bobs there just waiting to be re-used.
the council want to find a long term lease holder for the site to be used as an amusement park,so that cant really be called bad news can it,only good from what i can see.

i was lucky to be able to ride the now demolished cyclone last year and its destruction was unecessary, but if the other rides can be saved instead of them going the same way surely you would agree thats a good thing?

its quite ironic that we have got thanet council and waterbridge trying to get rid of any traces of dreamland and redevelop the site into yet another leisure facility, meanwhile southport council are finding ways to maintain pleasureland as an amusement park

makes you sit and think does it?

i wouldnt write off pleasureland obviously southport council can see it still has massive potential which i totally agree with

i have enclosed a link so you can see ride videos of cyclone and king solomons mines in action.and a video of the entire park when it was running last year.

Sorry uvegotmale2000, but Sefton aren't looking for long term lease holders for Pleasureland.

They have short term lease for travelling fairs to operate in the car parks, but the main site is remaining closed (as far as we can tell).

This is all while they "decide on the future of the site". Which could honestly mean anything. The lack of action on Sefton's part regarding buying the lease sooner, and saving the Cyclone, suggests that they're not interested in taking it on as an amusement park.

They MAY see sense if a travelling fair is successful, but I suspect that they already have plans in place for the site, which don't include using it as an amusement park.

The Big Wheel is privately owned by the way:
